Hey man. I am at durham university, but row for a college team not the university team, so not as high a level. Our mens squad failed to qualify for BUCS, but only one durham college mens crew did. 2k time was not great and in order to get to where I want to be that time needs to be improved along with technique on the water, but thanks anyway. Take it you row, which club do you row for?
Yep, I row for Swansea University. This year has been very disapointing in comparision to the last two. But we seriously struggle with equipment and funding having to borrow boats for most races! Good luck for the rest of regatta season.
@George: You rowing in 1st eight? It is annoying with lack of equipment. We have decent fours and eight boats, but we lack good blades when top crews from both men and womens squad out and it would be good to get a double or pair. My main aim is to get a college 4 up to standard to qualify for Henley.
AM
Run on empty stomach
PM
8k outing in 4 man crew.
Notes:
Most 4 outings now are in a potential crew for Henley next year. In order to achieve this it will mean massive increase in ability to row as well as improved fitness from everyone in the boat. Once my exams are over at end of May, a lot of focus will go into my training.
Again I have fallen off updating my log and missed a couple of outings, but exam time is extremely busy and stressful.

FIRST REGATTA WIN! First regatta of season and our coxed four won the IM3 4+ category. We cruised our way to the final by just getting clear water lead and holding them off with good controlled rowing. Final was unbelievably close and involved an all out rate 42 sprint in the last 250m. It worked and we just took them at the finish line. It wasn’t till a few minutes later I actually realised we won. Scrappy win, but determination and all out power won that race. We will definitely have to make drastic improvements technically at race pace to qualify for Henley next year, but it was an excellent start. One of the other mens coxed fours won the novice 4+ category. It was a great day and I am so happy for everyone in the squad. From a personal point of view I am completely ecstatic. Finally all the hard work, early mornings and the long drag of ergos, weights and outings in the cold and the rain have paid off.

2 x 1500m at 1:47.1 split rate 24.
Did a few k steady state either side. Not great, but just something to try and maintain some fitness during exam time. At moment sleep, nutrition and training are way off where they usually are, but only week and half of exams to go.

8k outing in 8 man crew. Pretty good considering in middle of exam time and lack of training at the moment.

Race day. Got to the final of IM3 8, but lost to our main rivals. By the end of my captaincy I plan to take them down. IM 3 4 lost in second round. Rowing was not too bad, but no rest between 8 and 4 meant after first 4 race which was a close victory my crews was destroyed.
05/06/2011
6k outing in 4 man crew. Not too intense mainly focusing on technical work and race starts. My usual 4 is back together for the final regatta and we won our first regatta together, so am really aiming to finish the season on a high.

Didn’t push myself quite as much as last week, trying to make sure I don’t overtrain due to intense week of rowing in preparation for last official regatta at weekend.

4k outing in 4 man crew, in preparation for Saturday. Focus on race starts. The draw on Saturday is tough, so a lot will come down to performance on the day.
