I work offshore, and I’m always going to different rigs, so I really get a chance to see some different types.
But this one guy…
He was trying to do lat rows, I guess thats what they are called. You are bent over, resting one arm on a bench and your other arm is hanging down holding a dumbell. You pull upwards, similar to starting a lawn mower.
Anyways this guy was using a cable and machine not a dumbbell, and he would use his whole body to pull and jerk the weight. The weight would FLY all the way to the top and Clang then he would let it hit the bottom and Clang. Every now and then he would mess is rythm up and be jerking up when the weight was comming down.
He thought he was a hardass…
He was pretty built though, but probably more from hard labor than anything he did in the gym.
The guy that always workouts out in jeans, dress shoes, and a dress shirt. He’s pretty strong though, so I’m guessing he works out in between jobs or a break.
The group of strippers that work out together and do all sorts of exercises for their glutes. When they in front of the DBs (the mirrors are there) you just see all the guys looking. I’ve even saw this couple fight cause she blamed her man for looking at them. I don’t blame him though lol.
If I’m in a rush and it’s an upper body day, I’ll literally workout with my jeans and button up on.
I think some people might look at me like I’m ridiculous lol, but I get in put in my work and get out. No loud grunts or music. Just moving fast through my workout.
I’m going to have to bust out the sunglasses next time for fun lol.
Not the strangest thing I’ve ever seen in a gym, but today I saw a guy doing front raises with the trap bar. No weight on it or anything, holding it at 90 degrees to the floor.
I’ve seen weirder shit in gyms, but that still got a raised eyebrow out of me.
I’ve done these before because my lower back was trashed and didn’t want the load on it. They’re pretty strange, but they do hit your posterior chain and such pretty hard.
these 2 old guys in my gym dont workout they jist talk. i was walking to the water fountain and one of them stops me to ask if my hair is real then proceeds to touch it.
i didnt think anything of it but now thinking about it why are 2 old dudes wondering about my hair and has no one ever seen real curls before? cus i get asked about it sometimes
As an older guy who has read your posts, maybe I can shred some light on this one.
They were probably stunned that you were old enough to have pubic hair, just like I am.
The real question is why are you walking around the gym naked. I am a bit creeped out by the touching, walking around naked does not mean you are asking to be groped.
One time I was talking to my friend about something related to locking out squats (I can’t fully remember) and an extremely lanky personal trainer comes up to us and tells us that it is never ok to lock out reps on any exercise. I pointed out to him that locking out is required in powerlifting, and that there’s no way to walk in your squats after your set safely without locking out. This confused him greatly, and he demanded that I show him my squat form. I showed him, and he said that what I was doing isn’t called locking out, it’s called “reaching the point of full extension”. He said locking out is when you push your knees back very hard at the top of the rep.
Another time my friend was maxing out his 3rm strict press, and was shaking near the top. A different personal trainer started pushing my friends lower back foreword, almost making him lose balance with a heavy weight over his head. After the set, we asked what this moron was doing, and he said that he was preventing him from shaking, and that he should do push presses from now on so he never shakes near the top of a rep.
There was a time at my school gym when I was warming up for deadlifts (the weight was no more than 225) and someone (must’ve been 230lbs) grabs the bar and does a rep, slams it down, and flexes in the mirror and grunts (he grunted as he flexed not as he did a rep) that was the only time I’ve ever seen that guy do anything other than bench. I am yet to see him do more than 3 reps of any weight
the first guy is about 30 or so, wants to be everyones friend, but has a creep loud laugh…will stand and talk then do a few sets and walk around the gym, like doing a lap or something. then find someone to talk to, let out a few loud creep laughs and repeat.
the second guy used to be a famous (?) rap or r&b star. wears sunglasses while he’s at the gym and does only machines. he’s thin, and doesnt work out hard and will only talk to a few people, but stare people down under his sunglasses.
I dont talk to either one, i avoid eye contact and let them be~
I was reminded of Jay (below) when I saw someone do something similar at my gym. Posing is strange enough but the wall around with pants around the ankles…
Strangest person at my gym is probably me. I’ve been described as “extra”
I work out at a powerlifting gym where members can walk up to a tablet and select their own song for their set. When I was doing my daily minimums for bulgarian method, I would play nature sounds for my sets so I wouldn’t hype myself up (no arousal in Bulgarian method).
I also play a lot of 80’s and 90’s R&B that the 20 somethings don’t like - I’m only 31. However, one of my favorite songs is Mavado - I’m so Special.
I also train neck isolation at the end of every session which people find weird, and I’m also the only one to use the trap bar and axle bar at my gym.
And I also wear floral headbands and have gold foil wings on my shoes.
Hi. I was training at my local gym. I was heading over to the squat rack when this young woman beat me to it. She starts working out, and im waiting. She sees me waiting yet is taking her time. Im still waiting ,hoping she will ask if I want to jump in . No such luck. I decide to ask if I can jump in. As I approach the squat rack and shes doing a set. She racks the bar and yells" WHAT!??!? FUCK!?!?" and walks off like a soiled brat who didn’t get her way. Of course , I’m shocked and really don’t know what to say. A few minutes later one of the clerks comes up to me.
Just as he is about to say something ,two of the gym members interrupt him and come to my defence, saying I did nothing.
The clerk says " I believe it. Shes nuts. Shes had several issues with both female and male customers.Whatever u do ignore her."
Weeks later I heard from one of the members that the crazy woman, told the gym manager that I was checking her out and all eyes on her ass. She wasn’t that good looking. A lot of acne, Ass was ok, …I guess.
The truth was, I was waiting for an invite to jump in.
Now I run into her every now and then at the gym. She has this weird boyfriend who gives me dirty looks when hes with his friends. This has been going on for years. lol
Gym etiquette is gone with the 90’s. Where did it go? why did it leave?
Does anyone remember when , someone waiting for a long time , u asked them if they want to work in. Remember those days?
