Story of My Diet

I thought it would be interesting to tell a story and get some feedback from the community about how I have been eating. I used to eat anything and everything, would force feed myself, lots of milk and eggs, and whey. I would eat lots of fast burning carbs, meats etc, but could not get enough calories in because of a lack of apetite.

After a while I decided to take the backseat for a bit, and instead of trying to gain weight at all costs, I tried to tidy up my diet, make it healhty.
First I cut out gluten. I didn’t really notice much of a difference, except not eating certain things like beans and barley stopped a lot of gas and constipation problems.

Second I decided to start eating raw vegetables. I quickly became addicted to eating certain vegetables raw like zucchini and bok choy etc, for no reason I cna work out. Over the last few months I went from eating about 500g of veg a day, selected off a low-carb vegetables list, to eating over a kg. I am feeling hungier and more thermogenic the more veg I eat!

This was a bit scary because thermo just means I am wasting any calories I am getting by producing bodyheat, and I started losing weight. Some times throughout the day I would be pinging with energy, and slightly sweat like I have a deca-producing organ or something. Does anyone know why this is happening? I have not heard of anything like this happening to anyone by simply eating raw vegetables?

Anyway, I am enjoying this feeling, and my stool is greaaat (maybe not something you want to hear). I want to work my way up to 2kg of vegetables over a 24h period. 2kg is no more than about 60-100g of carbs, so I get most of my calories from drizzling oils over my greens, and go through a whole cup total of different oils per day - EVOO, MCT, coconut, grapeseed, fish, etc. all uncooked. I am finding these days I can control my weight a bit better by the amount of oil I use over a week.

I remember when I first turned to oils to gain weight… at first it was horrible, with a low-fiber diet of the time, most of the oils would end up in my stool and I would have the worst million-wipers. These days, eating over a kg of veg a day I find I do not need more than one wipe.

I eat meat or eggs about 3 times a day, kangaroo, chicken breast, lamb, turkey. No pork or beef for other reasons. This is pretty expensive, and the most filling part, so I was actually thinking of cutting down to meat once a day a few hours post-workout, and adding Biotest BCAA/PeptoPro pulses throughout the day every 4 hours. I think that per-usable protein it would be about the same in price, but much more effective at building muscle because of the blood-amino spikes. What does the forum think about that?

Pre-workout I will always have a banana and some other fruit like berries, or something sugary like a chocolate bar. I generally will not eat any oily-veg for at least an hour before my workout. Later I might give Anaconda a go mid-workout.

Basically 2kg of veg a day at $3/kg is $6/day is $42/week. The meat is about $4.2/day is $30/week. The oils are about 8-15/kg, which is $2.65/day is $18.5/week .
You can see at $90/week thats pretty cheap considering the amount of food.

I cheat a few times a week eating whatever other people are eating, which refreshes my pallet, and a lot of the time I will make my meat into curries and just sit the curry on top of the greens (tastyyy!). I still drink my whey iso shakes before meals, and I am drinking much more water per day. I struggled to down 2L, now I go through 2L minimum because eating this much greens makes me so thirsty… Or it could possibly be the sweating and much higher general activity due to the higher energy levels?

Well, I don’t know who will be interested, but it has been quite an evolution for me, and I am feeling much much healthier, I am pinging with energy, and I am eating much higher quantities of food even thought my fiber is much higher! When I was first doing this my carbs were way too low, I couldn’t train well, I had huge energy swings, feeling like crap. Now my carbs are up around 100-150g/day, mostly pre-workout I am feeling great! I will admit it took a while for my body to get used to this kind of eating but overall I am glad I made the change.

Can you list the veg you are eating, most of the veg i eat comes out of a frozen packet. So when I tried raw veg all i could think of is carrots, munching on a raw spud don’t sound to tasty.

I generally limit intake of broccoli and cabbage as they make me bloat if I eat too much of them. I also tend to limit my intake of the high carb ones like carrots and peas, unless it is a high-carb/cheat day, in which I will slam them down. I shred or chop all my vegetables so I don’t have to chew as much and it makes them mix better as a salad too. Eating any one vegetable alone is kinda boring or disgusting, but mixing it up makes things much tastier. I also often mix in a bit of vinegar, or cottage cheese, or both, if no curry.

I hope all those veggies are organic with those amounts :slight_smile:

Gibberish. If you are not going to save significant amounts of money I cant see the pay off. Real food trumps supplements every single time. Gaining muscle has more components than simply spiking amino acids with expensive, exotic proteins.
