Stomach Pain, Only Tums Helps

A lot of nights I get a piercing pain in my gut, especially on days that I eat a lot. It will not go away, and slowly gets worse, especially if I am moving around. But if I take one or two Tums it is gone within 20 minutes.

Any ideas what the problem is, and how I can prevent it?

Thanks.

Ask your doctor.

Best response. It could be anything from an ulcer to gastric reflux.

My initial thought as well. Very uncomplicated to treat but not good to leave undiagnosed for a long period of time.

Edit The fact that you described the pain as piercing though, tends to make me lean towards ulcer, if it is in fact either of these conditions. I would make a doctor’s appt and keep a list of foods that you eat until then. If it is inded an ulcer, it’s more likely what you are eating than how much you are eating.

Exactly, and going to bed on a full stomach is asking for it. I’ve batteld chronic stomach issues for years. You must make adjustments to your dietary routine in order to keep the symptoms under control. Oh yea, and see a doc. You definitely don’t want esophageal erosion, or a perforated ulcer. That’ll stop your training dead in it’s tracks.

Okay,

I was planning on starting to record my daily diet anyways. I will wait until it happens again and then go to see a doctor. That way he can also see which foods were eaten that day compared to other days.

I had no idea it might be this dangerous. Thanks for the feedback.

Good luck to you. Let us know how you make out.

I eat fast, and quite a bit. No junk food.
From what I can remember, it often happens after I go a while without eating and then eat a lot.

there could be your prob, if your hungry and eat alot real fast you’ll deff regret it,try stopping that and see how it goes

Go to the doctor to check if you have an ulcer, but DON’T follow the doctors advice if he gives you antacids, etc. There are ways to deal with it and antacids will work in the beginning but make things worse in the long-run.

Get this book (see link below) and follow the advice. I had so-called “acid reflux” and went through the medical roller coaster. Then I followed the instructions in this book and soon got over the problem. It’s been two years and no relapse:

Good luck! PM me if you like.

Sorry for the brief hijack but it’s related. Did you have an ulcer and/or acid reflux? I have an ulcer which is why I was curious. That’s also why I suggested the OP get that checked out when he described his pain; I know exactly what it feels like.

Just to ease your mind a little, it doesn’t have to be an overly-complicated issue. djreef is absolutely correct though in what those conditions can lead to though.

Another thought here…gallbladder? There are many different possibilities. Still best to see your doc first. Making any types of notes or observations will help him determine the cause though.

IMO that would bring on a different kind of symptom, the good old stomach ache. OP has piercing pains which is also what my cousin experienced when she got an ulcer (many years ago). You definitely need to see a doctor. Start writing down anything you eat and include “the small stuff” like any ketchup and spices, tea and coffee, supplements, etc you take in, not just the whole foods.

It might be best to just go to the doctor now instead of waiting for the pain to happen again.
