Stock Up on Ammo ASAP

All true, if it’s hard to find one of those, look for a Garand. might cost a grand, but some would argue an even better weapon. 10 shots of 30 06 isn’t a bad problem solving device.

I have one. Love it. picked it up for $600 a few months ago. Really good shape. Heavy match barrel, so not very mobile. I was thinking about taking it deer hunting next year, but it feels twice as heavy as the old model 94 carbine.

That’s really why I am leaning in that direction. I would get one with a short barrel but could always buy another upper if I wanted to reach out and touch stuff at 500+. Although for the moment, uppers seem to hard to come by as well. At least the reasonable ones. I could also swap accessories between the AR and LR.

I really do like the M1A. I have bid on several over the last couple of weeks, but they keep going above my S1800 max bid. That’s for synthetic stock, forget walnut.

I just bought one for 2K, and it’s synthetic, but there is some value for that walnut stock. I call it “urban camoflage”. I can walk out to the truck with my rifle and not be known in the neighborhood as the guy with the “assault rifle”. Keeps me down low on the confiscation list.

I’ve got a spare walnut stock if you want it, Mike. Wanna trade?

By the way: you know what also works well as camouflage? A 5-round flush magazine. I can’t tell you how many people at the range have mistaken my rifle for a Garand when I’m using the flush mag.

Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks did more to advance our cause than they ever will know. After watching Band of Brothers and Private Ryan, there is no way that Americans can look at an M1 Garand without seeing a weapon wielded by heroes.

Ban the Garand, and you spit in the faces of every paratrooper in Easy Company, every footsoldier who stormed Omaha Beach, and every Marine who routed the Japanese at Iwo Jima.

…and of course, an M1A is nothing more or less than a Garand with an improved gas system and a removable magazine, firing a slightly shorter (but ballistically equivalent) cartridge.

I think the 30 06 beats the 308 , but not by much with a little bit easier on recoil.

But if I put in Hornady light mags at 165 gr and 2880 fps, I have a 30 06. My Ruger stainless hoots them at 1" at a hundred yards.

My M14 will do that with Hornady TAP 168s, the only difference being that they’ll get there about 100 fps slower. I guarantee you a enemy soldier won’t be able to tell the difference between getting hit by a .308 and getting hit by a .30-06.

All true.
