Starting Back From Anxiety Attacks

Hi all

I’m glad I came accross this thread. I started getting anxiety this year. I never had an attack, but I had like 3 weeks of contanat worry in the stomach type feeling. I broke down talking to my mum about it. It was some strange times. That was in Feb.

I think mine came on from a re occuring shoulder injury. I reinjured again on Jan 1 and I started to worry about my future. I’m a personal trainer so it kinda sucks to be injured all the time. My doc told me I should get surger and I freaked. Determined not to have surgery I’ve made some progress.

I seemed to have good results for reducing anxiety with Emotional Freedom Technique. So simple and effective. I also meditate using Insight Program.

Problem is yesterday I got some anxiety and today some also. I spend yesterday thinking aobut my joints again. My other shoulder was giving me a little trouble and my knees were playing up. I’ve had surgery on both knees.

Makes it kinda hard to lift the heavy weights. I’ve decided that I’m focusing on rehad, and muscle balance. The heavy stuff can weight a while. I’m 29 and realising that motorbikes, snowboards, and drunken stupidity have been lots of fun, but at a price.

Good to hear I’m not alone with anxiety.

I’ve totally lost sight of the fact of the origins of that original post - this is all due to you Dan. Congrats on the huge milestones. Only thing left for me to say is you’re one lucky bugger with the Ambien!!! Workouts looking great as ever. More & more of a breath of fresh air you are everyday! Bravo!!![/quote]

Thanks for the kind words, Flower. I appreciate it.

DOA,
Glad that you found this thread. Sorry to hear about your shoulder injury, sounds like a real pain. If the injury doesn’t get better soon, you should return to your doctor and see about getting the surgery…I’m sure once you get that done you’ll be feeling better and will be able to resume lifting without pain.

Meditation and breathing exercises really do help control anxiety, so keep practicing those.

If you need antyhing, don’t hesitate to ask myself or some of the other frequent posters on here for help. We’re always open to listening to each other’s problems.

Hey everyone,
Boy, I’m spent after my boxing workout today. I switched things up a bit and definitely noticed a difference.

Here’s a quick rundown. 1 round = 3 minutes.

1 round (1 min. each)
Jumping Jacks
Burpees
Sit-ups

1 round (1 min. each)
Skip Knees
Push-Ups
Medicine Ball Crunches

1 round (1 min. each)
Burpees x2
Side Twist Crunches w/Medicine Ball

1 round (used light DB)
Lateral Raises/Front Raises/Shoulder Presses

1 round
10 jabs
10 jab-straight

1 round
10 jab-straight-hooks

2 rounds
max punches (any style)

1 round
10 jabs
10 jab-straight

1 round (1 min. each)
Jumping Jacks
Sit-ups
Planks

Cool-down. I rested 30 seconds between each round.

Just finishing up my PWO shake right now then it’s off to my chair to get in some reading before the Final Four starts later this afternoon.

Looking forward to tomorrow’s workout…not! I know the 3x18 is going to be brutal, but I’m sure I’ll be glad I did it after the pump I get.

Take care everyone,
Dan

Hey everyone,
Hope you all remembered to set your clocks forward an hour…man I hate losing that hour of sleep. Today is just flying by. I had a great workout, though, so I feel great.

Here’s the stats:

Sets: 3
Reps: 18
Rest: 120

Dips: BW

Front Squats: 95

Seated Cable Rows (wide grip): 100

Preacher Curls: 35

Standing Cable Crunches: 60

Boy was I wiped after this workout! The 3x18 really gets to you by the end. I just had to talk myself through it and remind myself that it’s only 1 day and tried to think of how good I’ll feel once I was done.

I’m going to start incorporating CT’s recommendation of practicing posing into my routine. I’m going to do it after my boxing workouts for 30-45 minutes, trying to hold each of the 8 poses for 60 seconds at a time. Should help with musclar density and maybe also get some more veins to pop out.

Hope you all are doing well,
Dan

Hola!
Just finished another home boxing workout. Looks like I might have to tone down things a bit, or at least do some more shadowboxing, as a neighbor (I live in an apartment complex on the top floor) complained to management about loud, banging noises coming from our apartment.

Apparently I knocked one of her pictures off from the wall…which I find hard to believe as we have a bunch of pictures and a CD rack full of 500 CD’s in the room where I exercise and they’ve never fallen down. I don’t have a problem with people asking me to not be as loud, but it is annoying when they complain to management first without approaching me face-to-face. Anyway, I just told management that the noise was probably from us moving around furniture in our bedroom, and they said it was no big deal.

Okay, end of small rant.

Today’s workout was the same as Saturday’s with the only difference being I moved the shoulder exercises to the end of the workout. I found that when I did them earlier last time, I didn’t have as much power behind my punches.

I also did some posing for 15 minutes following the workout. Man, it’s tough holding those for 45-60 seconds at a time. Definitely going to have to work up to a full half-hour, but I’ll get there.

Tomorrow it’s back to the gym for day 2, Week 7 of TBT.

Take care,
Dan

Good afternoon,
Just returned home from another great workout at the gym. I can’t say it enough how great it feels to be back in the gym on a consistent basis. Sometimes when you go without something, you realize how important it was to you. I took training for granted before my anxiety attacks, and now it’s something that I look forward to each day as I continue to work towards my goals.

I had a bit of a rough night sleeping last night. That dang sinus drainage came back and started right before I went to bed. Took me an extra 1.5 hours to fall asleep but I still managed to get in 6 good hours, so I felt fine waking up this morning. Took some Tylenol Sinus daytime medicine and will take another dose soon and have also been popping Vitamin C and the drainage appears to have subsided for now.

Onto the workout, here’s the stats from today:

Sets: 3
Reps: 8
Rest: 60

BB Bench Press: 185 (definitely gone up on this exercise as when I started TBT I couldn’t even do 185x5).

Romanian Deadlifts: 155

Standing Military Press: 95, 105, 105

Leg Curls: 100

Lateral Raises: 25, 30, 30

Seated Calf Raises: 140

Tomorrow it’s sprint day. My legs have finally recovered from last week’s session, so I’m looking forward to a good run tomorrow.

Take care everyone,
Dan

Hey guys and gals,
Just finished my sprint workout and I’m completely wiped. I think I’m going to try and catch a quick nap before I have to go back out to work. I was going to take today off, but figured since it’s 75 degrees today, I better get the running in now b/c it’s supposed to get down to 45 degrees and raining Friday and I really hate running on the treadmill.

OK, off to rest. I hope everyone is doing well,
Dan

Hey there,
Well, I actually lifted several hours ago but have been tied up in meetings at work. Definitely glad I decided to lift before the meetings and not wait till after.

Here’s the stats from today:

Sets: 3
Reps: 12
Rest: 90

Chins: BW

DB Lunges: 30

Seated BB Military Press: 95, 115, 115

Sumo Deadlifts: 205

Close-grip bench press: 175

Also did my weekly weigh-in today and went up another pound! I’m currently 195, so 10 more pounds to go until I hit my target.

Taking tomorrow off as I’ll be celebrating 1 year of marriage with my wife. Counting dating we’ve been together 7 years. I’m looking forward to the dinner (fondue), although my checkbook won’t be.

Take care everyone,
Dan

Ha! That’s funny. Me and MJ dated for 7 years before we got married too. Really was for the best. We got college and establishing careers out the way before we settled down together.

That is interesting, Ragoo. My wife and I pretty much knew after 2 years that we were going to get married, we just weren’t in a rush to do it as like you said, we wanted to wait for me to finish school (she’s older than me) and get my career established before trying to plan a wedding. It definitely worked out for the best that we waited.

Whats up BIGRAGOO?

We have discussed this before haven’t we?

BIG and I went thru the same thing you did Dan.

I completely fell apart one day and I thought it was over. I am talking the S word. I went thru a nasty divorce with a 2 year old daughter. I just didn’t want to get up to face the world anymore.

I went to Doctors and they put me on meds, I started working out again as part of my therapy and my life has turned around 180.

When I got back in the gym I found T-Nation while searching for some different workouts on the web. At the time, I was still really screwed up in the head. But the brothers here helped me. I can honestly say that the people here helped save my life. You probably know, but I didn’t want to see or talk to anyone. So all of my communication was here at night with T-Nation bros.

That is the best thing about the Nation-- you are not alone with these problems. People here will help you just like BIGRAGOO and others helped me.

If you ever need to talk you send me a PM. I check in on the Nation daily. I will help you in anyway possible because I know what you have and still might be going thru.

Making great progress I see. Good luck with everything,

We are always here.

What’s up JW? Yeah, we had this discussion before. Good thing me and MJ worked things out, because I could have easily been tossed aside and left to rot in my misery. Like you said, there are people here that have been helpful and insightful. It’s comforting to know that there are others that go thru this kind of shit.

Not trying to rip your thread Dan but I have to ask Big a question.

Still doing well?

JW

JW,
Don’t worry, you’re not invading my thread by asking Ragoo a question.

Thanks for posting, I appreciate it. I’m glad to hear you have turned things around in your life, definitely sounds like you went through a very rough patch. You’re right about finding a support system here. I really think it’s one of things that has helped me improve is being able to talk a lot of nice, friendly and helpful people on this site.

Thanks Bro,

Like I said we are always here.

Best of luck to you and yours.

Hey everyone,
Well, last night was a great night. Took the wife out to a fondue restaurant for our anniversary. Had a bunch of salmon, shrimp and filet mignon and then for a splurge, we had some chocolate for dessert. Definitely worth the price.

Just finished my boxing workout and threw in 15 minutes of posing afterwards.

Here’s the workout:

2 rounds (1 min. each of)
Jumping jacks
Sit-ups
Burpees

3 rounds
10 jabs
10 jab-straight
10 jab-straight-hooks

3 rounds
Shadow boxing

2 rounds
max. punches

Did 2 sets of 20 lateral raises/front raises/DB presses and 2 sets of 20 DB curls/hammer curls.

Also did 50 push-ups to close out the workout.

Tomorrow it’s Day 1 of the 8th and final week of TBT.

Talk to you all soon,
Dan

Everything looks good - um especially that meal. Interesting how you’re ending & I’m starting (that would be thanks to your help).

Got to mention, still a great thread.

Tracey

Tracey,
Thanks, as always, for the kind words. I really think you’ll enjoy TBT. It’s one of my favorite programs and definitely one that I get good results from.

Hey everyone,
Just got back from Day 1, Week 8 of TBT. I took yesterday off, as I had to re-arrange my schedule a bit due to my gym closing this coming Sunday for Easter.

Here’s the stats for today:

Sets: 3
Reps: 18
Rest: 120

1A)Dips: BW
1B)Seated Cable Rows, wide grip: 110 (+10 lbs.)

2A)Front Squat: 135

3A)Preacher Curls: 35
3B)Standing weighted crunch: 80

Did 3 sets of plate pinchers with 25 lbs. First set I went for 80 seconds! Second set was 65 seconds and third was 60.

Did 3 sets of reverse wrist curls to finish things up.

Going to try and squeeze a quick nap in this afternoon before I have to go back to work.

Tomorrow will be a home boxing workout.

Take care everyone,
Dan
