Wanted to ask everyone here a quick question if I might.
I started AndroGel approx 3 months ago and did some blood work last week. Along with the usual metabolic panel, I had TOTAL TEST looked at. Over the last 5 years, the lowest it had been was 330ng/dl…today it was 220ng/dl.
I will of course ask for a more comprehensive testosterone testing to include free test, but what could have gone wrong here?
Overall, I would say I feel quite a bit better (especially in the gym).
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, topical treatments aren’t going to work out for you, because you just don’t absorb topicals very well. Increasing the dosage at this point will prove futile.
Cypionate injections or Jatenzo might be an option. Jatenzo is a relatively new oral gel capsule taken twice daily. Recommended starting dosages is 237 mg twice daily. Jatenzo is started, steady states in 7 days, at which point levels are checked and adjust as needed.
Your doctor had you wait too long to do your follow-up labs, topicals reach steady states in as little as 1-3 weeks due to the very short half-life. Three weeks would have been the appropriate time to check and adjust dosing.
Whenever I see an Androgel protocol, where treatment is unsuccessful, and doctors waiting too long to check and adjust levels, trouble usually follows. If you doctor prescribes an injection protocol every two weeks, ask him/her if you can inject 100 mg weekly or 50 twice weekly. If not find a new doctor asap.
I forgot to mention you’re supposed to test levels while on topicals and orals 4-6 hours after dosing. Testing beyond 6 hours may give you a low result even though treatment is a success.
