Start Your Own Nation...

So let’s say some sort of idealistic movement sprouted up and organized many ppl ala Atlas Shrugged into a group focused on one work ethic and philosophy.
Is it possible they could start their own nation? Overtly or clandestinely?
Would it be worth it?

Typify and define the political & economic system and then purchase a large plot of land in some beleagured third world country, then militarize it, or perhaps outright pay to secede to a corrupt government?

What do you think?

Already been done:

Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? ‘No!’ says the man in Washington, ‘It belongs to the poor.’ ‘No!’ says the man in the Vatican, ‘It belongs to God.’ ‘No!’ says the man in Moscow, ‘It belongs to everyone.’ I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose… Rapture

Why don’t you just move to Hong Kong, Singapore, or most of the eastern-bloc countries? Low taxes, less chance of military invasion, and you get the benefit of a local workforce?

I’ve considering spending some time next summer in HK. How’s the English over there? Would I have to pick up another language?

No. Everbody who interacts with the general public speaks English. You won’t be able to talk to construction workers, bus-boys/women, low-budget masseusses, and some niche shops, but otherwise you’ll be fine. If you speak Cantonese though, you can haggle better. But I don’t know if learning the language is going to be worth the money you’ll save.

Also, buying plus-size clothing is incredibly difficult. So if you’re tall and/or heavy… plan accordingly.

Two Ayn Rand references already. Sweet.

I have to butt in here and say “the man in the Vatican” freely chooses this option, and you are not forced to give your money to the Church, like that in Moscow and Washington. And even the pope said socialism was bad.
