Did George Lucas put the Star Wars Prequels out as books? I made a small bet that he didn’t. A guy I barely know said his friend is a huge Star Wars fan and has shown him the books before and that Attack of the Clones was called the Clone Wars. I said since this guy is admittedly not a big fan, he’s probably saw one of the countless Star Wars books. I’ve seen George Lucas in interviews say that the 3 prequels are (were) all in his head and that the Clone Wars was mentioned in Star Wars the movie. So who’s right?
"Clone Wars was mentioned in Star Wars. During the conversation that Luke was having with Obi Wan, after the whole thang with the Sand People. Obi Wan mentioned that Luke’s father was a Jedi and that he knew and fought with him, and Luke replied “He fought in the Clone Wars?” - or something to that extent. OH MY GOD, you just made me “geek out” here… sheepish grin
The interviews you mentioned were probably pretty recent -there are interviews from around after the time of Star Wars and near Empire, where Lucas stated that prequels were NOT in his agenda. Of course, I'm sure that as soon as he saw his bank roll GROWING, he decided, "why not?".
Nah, Lucas had nothing to do with any books (heck, he didn’t even direct all the films!) He outlined what aspects of the ‘story’ he wanted to come back to, and other writers were allowed to play around with the rest of the universe.
i dunno if this corroborates the existence of the books before the movie, but at an old theater near my house they have this ancient movie poster (circa early 1980s) for, interestingly enough “Star Wars: Clone Wars.” It’s some dude overlookin like 10trillion stormtroopers or somethin marchin into a gigantic ship…i dunno if that helps but just thought id chime in…and dude, i think you may be better off posting this question in one of the many star wars forums out there…im sure ud have a definite answer in no time
Patricia- The interview I was referring to is after Return of the Jedi (on the digitally remastered non-new scenes VHS version). You don’t have to sugar coat your comments on George Lucas. NOBODY rips off their fans more than George Lucas. Although I know an unhealthy amount of Star Wars trivia, I really dislike George Lucas and think the movies are good but not great.
The Mighty Stu- Lucas wrote Star Wars:A New Hope/ From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker. Any other Star Wars book is licensed through Lucasfilm Ltd. so that Lucas can capitalize on writers far more talented than he.
Screwtape: Thanks for suggesting a SW forum but I’d prefer to do a little online research myself. I should have just done a quick search instead of posting this. The Clone Wars poster sounds like a fraud. A friend of mine gave me an old Star Wars poster when I was in college. I questioned it’s authenticity when I saw a fax #. I did a quick online search of the company which made the poster, Tribune Showprint, Inc., and discovered that they make all kinds of fake posters. Movies, bands, and festivals for example. A lot of them are a bad drawings on top of a rainbow-covered background, but not all of them.
