Since this thread officially reached an AIDS level of repulsiveness, I suppose it wouldn’t hurt at this point to ask why you would be a huge supporter of Israel?

I’m a huge supporter of Isreal too. I didn’t understand the question, are you saying being a supporter of isreal is repulsive? That’s fine if that’s you’re opinion however everyone is entitled to their own opinion on the matter. I have nothing against those who are anti isreal or think isreal doesn’t have the right to exist, it’s a totally valid opinion, both sides are biased. I’m a huge supporter of Isreal because it is the only Jewish state (well identified as Jewish) in which jewish people can go to if in trouble (persecution or whatever) and will always be accepted. I’m not going to go into the political side of why I support Isreal because I don’t want to spark an arguement

It was just a simple question asking why ramdom889 supports Israel. I’m asking someone who isn’t Jewish why he feels such enthusiasm for Israel. As you probably know, many orthodox Jews don’t support Israel because its existence conflicts with their beliefs. I don’t want to get into the political side of things either. It was just a simple question, but I realize it had the potential to be inflammatory.

Does it offend you?

It’s not an illegitimate question. As such I’ll answer, mostly because I believe you asked in good faith and we should always take the time to answer real questions when someone is genuinely asking.

First the structural benefits of Israel: a democracy in the Middle East, which is a sea of autocracy and non-secular rule; it’s a military ally to the United States in a part of the world that requires a fair bit of human intelligence; acts as an antagonist to the entirety of the Middle East, which avoids the possibility of complacency by any country over there; is extremely westernized in their culture, finance, tech, and healthcare fields, thus it is a trading partner and an incubator for more advances in various fields that will serve the good of mankind. Etc. Now if Egypt or Jordan were the same thing then I would be a supporter of them based on these attributes. But Israel has one major difference…

The Jews have had no home for generations. Everywhere they went they faced violence and hatred eventually. While the United States has been a shining beacon for the Jewish people—recent events notwithstanding—it is not an ancestral home. The Jews haven’t had a true home of their own since the Neo-Assyrians exiled them from the Kingdom of Israel in 720BCE. That’s a long time for a people to be on the road. From that time onward they were always under the rule of someone else, be it the Greeks, Persians, Romans, or simply whatever place they landed after the diaspora. Once the State of Israel was established it was incumbent upon all those who believe in the right of the Jewish people to exist—a right not recognized by the Nazis, or modern day Iran, or Hamas—to fight for their existence.

I hope that answers your question.
