The guy doing the upright rows.

Was doing legs yesterday. Dude asks me for a spot on the bench. Has 365 on. Tells me 4-6 reps. I ask if he needs a lift off and he says yes.

Give the lift off, as soon as I let go he has it for about 2 seconds then it just falls right on his chest. I help him get it back up thinking thats it and he will rack it but no, he says ‘I got it this time’…boom drops it right on his chest again. Thought he was dead. I basically have to boredline upright row the thing off him, keep in mind i weight a buck eighty.

I would just rack it for him and walk away.

A guy at my gym has 3 people spot him to do 365 and makes it a 4 person lift. You are a nice person. The second time I would have left him to figure it out.

Next time he asks for a spot get into the spotter’s position, take some wrist straps out and put on a belt. Strap up and then say, “OK, I’m ready.”

Hahaha

make sure you are there for all the sets so you can both warm-up. Don’t wanna spot that guy when you’re cold.

For sure. I hear EXTREME spotting is just balls for trap development.

I’ve done that. A dude asked for a spot so I helped him lift it off. He lowered it to his chest and got stapled so I pulled it off him and racked it. I thought that was it but he was like “what you are doing? I’ve got 4 more reps to do!”

Next thing you know, bros will be trying to get you to squeeze out their shits.

I had the same thing happen to me when I worked in a gym, a skinny guy asked me to spot his bench. Don’t remember the weight, but clearly too much for him. It almost crushed his chest, and then I had to “spot” him for 6-8 reps. Never again…

Some guy reckoned his 4.5 x bodyweight leg press would translate to a 200kg+ backsquat.

I think he shit himself as he went to the toilet once he got off the floor.

gosh I feel pretty lucky at my new gym I haven’t really seen any shenanigans worth writing about in here.

Home Gym is where it’s at. Invest $2000-$3000 and like $500-$1000 each year/every other year until the gym is complete. Don’t deal with morons… It helps the company I work for will reimburse $500 a year in equipment costs.

Then you need to work out more than once a month.

Just teasing. You must be lucky. I get people doing half bench presses then doing half incline presses. They are not going down to the chest. I told one guy that is one killer arm work out you got there. He said, “No man I am working out my pecs.”

Back in the college days there were these two guys I would see in the gym every so often. They would do nothing but practice breakdancing under the rock climbing wall. One of them was actually pretty damn good.

I must be a moron magnet this week. Warming up on incline barbell, guy asks to work in. Starts like aggressively spotting me even though I am just doing a few warmup sets and didn’t ask for it. He just like hops in immediately after each of mine and starts going balls out on the weight that was there. After the warmup with 185 I walk to the water fountain take a sip, and walk back to see him pinned with 185 stuck on his chest and legs flailing.

I walked as slow as I could pretending I didn’t see it until someone came and helped him causing Charles Darwin to turn in his grave.
