I love the ranting Spidey.

Congrats on your acceptance into law school. Im not familiar with how law schools work in the US, but your success will depend on what you make of things. Keep positive, keep learning and go get em tiger!

Im enjoying the new Spiderman comics as well. Currently I just read paperbacks as they are released, as it is too hard for me to collect individual comics every week. Im currently reading “The Superior Spiderman” story. Did you enjoy that storyline?

Thanks for the encouragement on law school bud.

I liked the Superior story line alright, and it was definitely a ‘fresh’ take. But I’m happy to have Peter back. The Superior costume was pretty cool looking, though. If you liked Spider-Ock, he’s got a pretty big role in the Spiderverse run.

I’m back at it today and feel much better haha

Hit a solid PR today!

Front Squats: Over-warm-ups were feeling good, so I hit a solid PR for a single. 2 min rest
250x1 (beltless)
290x1

275x2
245x4

Sumo DL: mehh. idk I was working my way up and hips just felt weird, so cut these short
455x1

Then I did some DB Upright Rows, Meadows Swings, Rear Delt Rows, and Calves for 12-20 reps

Workout was good, 290 on Front Squats is a big PR for me, and it was by accident haha. So feeling good about that. I thought I’d have 275x3, but probably should have rested another minute. Regardless, happy for that.

Sumo didn’t hurt or anything, and I think technically I’ve never pulled 455 lol. But Idk something kind of popped, no pain or anything. But after the Front Squat PR I was fine with not trying to go for broke completely.

As I’m leaning out I’m noticing how shitty my delts are. I’m going to emphasize laterals for a bit, and my ‘Light’ middle of the week upper day may be just a ‘pump shoulder’ day. Do my Bench Variation, then really hit some kind of shoulder pressing, a ton of laterals and rear delts. Idk yet though. could just make a more intentional effort to hitting them hard after legs. Will just have to think about it.

Sleep has a HUGE influence on how I feel, and it can be a challenge. I don’t always know why I’ll go through cycles of less sleep. I’m going to be one of those old ladies who is up cleaning the house at 4:00 am. GRR. Best of luck with your grad school plans. Very exciting.

yeah sleep is such performance killer for me. I have such respect for those people who do amazing things on like 4 hrs of sleep, I just think I’m not that kind of person. I saw once there’s some genetic predispositions on needing more or less sleep, but I don’t remember where I saw it.

Thanks, I’m excited!

Hey Spidey,

In that squat video above you are wearing a Captain America shirt? Is that a “Under Armour” product?

Im asking this as I want to order some “alter ego UA shirts” online, but I am unsure if I should go for the large or extra-large, and Im pretty sure we are of similar size, so I was wondering if you could help on this?

Sorry bud, it’s actually just a sweat shirt. I do have a Spidey loose fitting style Under Armor shirt, and a large fits me well without looking overly tight, which I prefer.

Perfect.

So you’re about 6’2 and 210 lbs??

Add another guy to that size lol.

Be careful with this though. I’ve got wider shoulders but a short upper body. I’ve gotten larges before but unless they’re the real loose fit they don’t fit at all. If you’re a wider guy go with the XL.

Also solid front squat Spidey. Paused front squats are also awesome.

Birdy, I’m mid-cut right now so I’m 203 lbs right now, was 213 or so a month or so ago.

Kollack is right though, if it’s a ‘tight’ fit, I’d go with a XL.

Paused Front Squats are almost an ab exercise for me, entire torso is wrecked after doing them.

If either of ya’ll have Facebook, add me. Name’s Kevin Spencer Pierson, we have a group on there with a lot of T-Nation members.

Rep Upper dayyyy

Incline Bench: Felt good today. 2:30 rest
205x1 (paused *slightly lol)

175x7

155x10
135x11 (paused)

Fat Grip Chins: 2 mins rest
BWx3x8-10
Orangex2x10 (banded)

Wide Grip Bench: Rest periods for this lift kills me, seems to take forever for chest to recover lol. 2 min rest
165x3x7 (paused)

Then some pullovers, band curls, and diamond pushups for 10-20 reps.

Solid workout. I’ve started Benching in some old bball shoes with super excellent grip. Seems to allow me to really push without feet sliding, so lets see how it goes. I noticed Ed Coan and Dan Green seemed to do that, so that’s good enough for me.

Never pressed over BW for Incline, especially not paused, so happy with that lol

Good Light day

HB Paused Squat: All sets beltless. 2 min rest
295x1
275x3

250x4
225x6

SLDL’s: 5 sec eccentric. Destroyed lats as much as hamstrings lol. 90s rest
185x4x8

SG High Pulls: 90s rest
205x1
185x3x5

Then I did 4 sets of seated laterals, seated band leg curls, and calves, all 15+ reps.

While I want solid depth with the paused Squats, I’m doing them more for tightness, so I try to stop before butt wink takes over and causes me to get out of ‘strong’ position. Regardless, the 295x1 paused, beltless, and HB is awesome. If in the next month or so I can Front Squat AND HB Pause Beltless Squat 315, I think it’ll translate well to my ‘regular/hybrid’ Squat.

Macros are 300/260/65. Haven’t ate this low of cals in a longgggg time lol

Light Upper Day

Paused Flat Bench: Ayyye was actually pretty happy with these. 2 mins rest
225x2

205x4
185x6

Z Press: Meh, I just wanted to try these. Honestly they felt like a parlor trick, really hit my upper back. 2 mins rest
95x3x5-7

BB Rows: 5 sec eccentrics. 90s rest
155x4x6-8

Then I did some super close grip partial Benching, just little pump reps for a few sets of 15, then a bunch of BB reverse curls

It was a solid workout. The paused double with 225 felt easier than it looked. Also 205x4 paused is a PR, and 185x6 paused is my ‘fresh’ PR, so that’s solid to do fatigued.

I’m really digging this style of lifting. The Z Presses are potentially something I’ll do once every 2 weeks, just for some kind of OHP variation, but idk, while it’s hard, idk if it aligns with my goals of becoming a superhero kind of bro.

Hey, how is the training, spidey?

[quote]Destrength wrote:

Hey bud, going pretty good. Hitting rep PR’s daily and getting leaner, so can’t complain!

Did Rep Lower Body today, went ok

Front Squats:3 min rest. The 185 sets were just constant tension style, for pump and volume
255x1 (beltless)
275x1
235x6

185x3x7 (beltless)

Sumo DL: I kind of tard-strengthed this up. I’m thinking I’m kind of hitting a wall with the frequent Sumo pulling.
435x6

Then I did 3 rounds of a Quad set, inspired by ryanbCXG who I think did these a while back. Just did DB Laterals, followed by DB Rear Delt Flies, then Upright Rows, and then Band Pull-Aparts, all for 12-20 rep all in a circuit fashion. Was a good way to get some volume for shitty delts.

I’m starting to feel ‘weak’ in Sumo. I’m relying on my belt a bit more, which I guess makes sense with more lower back fatigue with Squatting, DLing, and or Benching every day. Regardless, I may have to just put Sumo on my middle Lower Day permanently, and keep lighter SLDL variations on the other two. Not sure yet, though, as 435x6 was a PR, so Idk if I should just keep going until it actually hits a wall.

I don’t know how you do the conventional front squat set up. I have the flexibility in my wrists it just doesnt feel comfortable on my shoulders

[quote]mattd534 wrote:

yeah i just use 2 fingers on the bar. The shoulder discomfort goes away with time IME, and honestly putting some mass on my front delts helped a bit. But overall Front Squats never feel ‘comfortable’ for me lol

Heavy Upper

No videos, phone died :frowning:

Incline Bench: Felt pretty solid. Tried to get some volume in. 90s rest
205x1
185x4
175x5x3

Fat Grip Chins: 60s rest. Really feeling these.
+30x5x3
+20x6

Reverse Band Wide Grip Bench: this kind of scares me, idk how secure my set-up is lol. Hit the chest like crazy though
225x6

DB Rows:
100x22 LR

Then some DB Pullovers, Incline Curls, and Close Grip Incline Push-ups.

Hit a new low in BW AFTER a refeed, so that’s awesome. Also, I’m a groomsman in a wedding this summer. Got measured for my suit, and the employee there not only commented on my ‘slim waist’ and ‘large legs and rear end’, but also when measuring my shoulders said I was very fit, began to ask if I workout, and then said ‘well I mean I guess it’s obvious you do’.

That’s right guys and gals, I made it. I fucking made it.

x 2 - That is awesome. I am assuming that he asked for a double bicep and most muscular pose… you know, to get measurements so that you would not go all David Banner on their suit?

LOL Thanks Needa. Also, it was a SHE, not a he, so even better

Furo Idk if you know this, but there’s something on your face.

I felt pretty crappy today, very tired. Usually when I’m tired, rep work/endurance goes to shit, so I decided to just do a heavy Single, Double, and Triple and not really push squats more than that as too not do something stupid.

Squats: 2 mins rest. Will explain a bit below
365x1

340x2

325x3

SLDL’s: Slight deficit, 90s rest
275x3x5

SG High Pulls: 60s rest
225x1
205x3
185x6

Then some quick delt stuff and I was done.

Last two nights have been poor sleep, not sure why. Then yesterday worked a 14 hour day, which always takes a lot out of me.

So the 365 Squat didn’t feel heavy. Like seriously looked way harder than it felt. I’m not sure the issue. Either the fact my legs are a bit different lengths throwing me off, or my scapula is weird, but something on my left side you can tell is kind of ‘off’.

Honestly considered going for a third rep with 340, but I forgot to put a collar on right, my right side weights were rattling and throwing me off, so I decided to stick to my single/double/triple game plan and not get greedy.

Overall these were all little baby PR’s, so I’m happy with that. 365 is weight I’ve been ‘capable’ of for awhile but never really just done it, so that’s a decent mile stone I suppose. I always feel good when I can PR on the ‘crappy’ days, because to me that where’s the progress is made.
