soldog, mim: good idea, thanks. I’ll do it.
So, I met a woman at the powerlifting competition and I’m meeting her today at 24 hr fitness to train together and get tips on my form. Then it occurs to me I will probably have to wear shoes! I have never lifted in shoes once this past year. I’m going to try my little flat cloth Bruce Lee shoes. What other surprises await me at a regular gym. Ack!

Awesome!! This will be of great help I’m sure.
Also, question about these risers you ladies are using. How high are you stacking them up? And from what I understand this is to ensure proper depth - but is there a difference between this and doing box squats? Sorry, I know, I’m so annoying.

Great day today on squats. I’m trying so hard to get to my 130 goal for the year end… but I didn’t quite make it today.
i love the intensity you have for making a goal, keep it up!

Anyway, 125 is pretty awesome for me as it’s 15 lbs more than previous PR. Yay!
anytime you are moving up is awesome. yah for you!

Leg extension (machine) I don’t know if anyone wants to get all up in my face about using machines.
that is funny…obviously we all covet the big lifts, but there is something to be said for variety and different stimulation for the muscles. IMO, if you feel your muscles reacting differently (as i do with extensions and curls) then that is likely a good thing. since we are attempting to squat the way most of us do, we are targeting our glutes more so than quads. (right girls?? correct me here if i’m wrong) the seated extensions definitely hit my quads more and i’ve recently thrown them back into the mix here and there.
yeah, i wish we had both. although i haven’t used lying in probably 15 years, so i don’t know if it’s all that i remember it to be.
i throw in the cable stuff as well on some days. hope the holidays are treating you well.
cheers!
oh yeah- enjoy your training with the PL girl.

bruce lee shoes…you can bust out your martial arts moves to scare the crap out of someone if they proceed to annoy you or get in your way.

No problem. Kimba and I had the same question until CBear straightened us out. Box squats are where you sit on the box and then get back up. Squatting to a box is where you just check depth with a box (or risers), and don’t actually sit on it. The box I use is an aerobic step with a 2x4 piece on top. When I brush it with my butt, I am sure that I have gone to just below parallel. You can see this a few pages back on video. I’m not sure how tall the box Kimba is using is.
Hi T! Happy new year to you. Fortunately no one tried to mess with us at the squat rack. I was totally ready with the jump turning hook kick.
The visit was great! I got some very nice tips on arching my back in the squat (do it more) and widening my grip on the bench. Hey K, if you’re out there thanks! Let’s get together again some time.

I’m using an aerobic step with three risers. This gets me to for-sure powerlifting legal depth.
So while in the bathtub, I was thinking about the problem of you getting higher in your squat rack without the risk of stumbling over an elevation change with a heavy bar on your back (I get my best ideas in the bathtub). Anyway, it struck me that the problem with stepping up to a plate or a step after unracking the weight could be solved if you could rig up a piece of several-inches-thick flat plywood that would be wide/long enough to cover the place you unrack and the place you squat. It looks from your videos like the gym you train at might not mind if you brought something like that in, and then propped it up against a wall when you weren’t using it.
This idea is worth what you paid. Not an engineer, and don’t play one on TV. ![]()
Kimba! That is sweet! I will haul in a sturdy piece of plywood next week. Or just ask the maintenance guys. They love my lifting.
You are awesome. Take lots of baths. xoxo
Damn it. I’ve just empowered my closest competitor.

I hope this works! As long as the platform is stable, it should be alot safer than stepping up on something (which would scare the living shit out of me).
Hmm. I’ve been surprised since Monday at this severe pinched nerve just below my neck. I often get a pinch in the middle of my shoulder blades but this has been worse than before. It just dawned on me that it’s the same place the bar whacked me when I had to tip the plates off during my 130 squat fail on Monday. I definitely have to solve this squat safety problem immediately! I can’t be walking out and squatting max with no backup.

Is there a bruise there? That is a heavy bar with which to get whacked. I hope this passes quickly.
I can’t see the back of my neck…
I got two long pieces of plywood and put them up in the gym. This will raise me about 5/8". I’ll vid next week to see if that’s enough. Thanks again for your suggestion!
New deadlift PR today woohoo!
12/30/09 played around with bench press grip width. Wide grip really attacked my shoulders and it was hard to unrack too. I’ll keep at it though. I didn’t do anything else yesterday or today because my shoulders, left arm, and neck are a wreck. I think I’ve been overdoing the pressing, not to mention whacking myself with the squat fail.
BB Bench (PR 100 lb narrow grip)
3x5 45 various widths
2x5 55 wide and narrow
2x5 65 wide and narrow
1x3 narrow 1x2 wide 75
2x5 55 wide and narrow
volume 40
12/31/09
BB Deadlift (PR 170 lb - conventional)
1x3 45, 95, 115 < I can feel myself sitting back well on these light weights. These were all setup between.
1x3 135, 145, 155 <I think I start to pull with my back a little at these weights.
1x1 165, 175 <PR!
FAIL 180
1x5 135 <I am certainly pulling with my back when i get to higher reps at this weight. This set was touch and go.
volume 25 (can I count the 45 and 95 reps?)
Happy New Year everyone!
You know what I love about the deadlift? The weight either came up or it didn’t. There’s no nonsense about depth and there’s no cheating. I picked 175 pounds up off the floor and put it down. End of story. ![]()

YAY for 175! I absolutely agree: the weight comes up or it doesn’t. Simple, but not easy.

Time to kick 2010’s ass now! Double body weight deadlift or bust. You in?
I’m in Kimba. I’m going for the big three this year: 1xbw bench, 1.5xbw squat, 2xbw dead.
hoorah!

gotta say something that i think is funny. G doesnt lift, but he understands that i love it. doesnt stop him from making fun of me, while being as supportive as possible. when i leave the gym, his regular text message is, “did you pick up heavy things, and then put them right back where they’re sposed to be? that’s quite a skill set you’re developing, and I’m so proud of you!!”
congrats on your deadlift, strong lady!
Your G is a funny fellow.
Grats on the new PR! Hope your neck thingy is sorted - I get pain there too sometimes. It’s, uh, a pain in the neck.
