Hmm. Looking at the video, poor math skills may actually be the culprit! Video shall now commence:
Chinup with 20 lbs
Astute chinup observers will note that I lead with the left when the going gets tough.

Ok, this is supposed to be 95 bench, but I can’t see the second set of 10s. I can’t believe I would mistake 85 for 95, so I’m going to have to assert that you just can’t see the other 20 lbs. hmmph
So, I thought this was 165, but look, there’s two tens on either side. So, I think I failed at 175. Discuss!
You have been KILLING IT lately!! Congrats!
In your last DL attempt, I think you could have muscled it up…it was looking like an all back lift though, and that wouldn’t have been good! Did you rest long enough between sets?
I bet you could get 165 though, and 175 will be soon to follow!
Heh, you know, you look like you could be related to Kimba.
Nice going on the lifts - sure you will get your deadlift soon.
So, Cal thinks I’m your long-lost twin sister, aye? ![]()
I actually do think we failed in a very similar way on the deadlift. I could tell that you just couldn’t quite get the weight up using your leg and butt strength, therefore you reverted to trying to pick up the weight with your back. The “pulling back” part just wasn’t happening, and I totally understand how that feels.
My bet is that after laying off the squats/deads for a few days, you can come back to that weight and kill it.
BTW, nice chinup! 20# extra means you are a beast. I also wish I had as nice a back arch as you do on the bench. I’m still really struggling with my setup.
Yay for videos! I love videos.
Cal, mim thanks! I’ll get it.
Mim: I think you are right. Because I was focusing on the vids, I didn’t pay attention to resting, just blew through them. I’ll give it another shot next week.
Kimba, I think you are right about reverting to back for the deadlift when I couldn’t pull. I’ll watch that. As for the bench arch, I just imitated pushmepullme’s avatar when I didn’t know anything about the bench. ![]()
I forgot to post the squat fail. Check it out. It looks like a failure of will, rather than muscle. I just gave up.
I’ve got no ideas for you on the 115# fail, but damn you are going WAY low. I’ve set up my step at barely legal depth (higher than you, for sure). Its really noticeable how low you are going at the end of the video when you sit back (pause it and see). Is that your intention to go below legal depth? That will certainly make squatting the same weights I do, advantage Kimba. ![]()
Also, you might just be tiring yourself out pre-lift with that long walk-out. Those damn rails are so high…
I have no idea what to do about that long walk. My shins are just too short to get depth on those rails. I thought about stepping up on a aerobic step and then lowering between the rails. That would give me the advantage of a safety so I don’t have to tip off the weights.
I’m not sure it was my intention to go below legal depth, just to be absolutely sure I was making it. But then there are those who brag about atg squats. What’s my goal here??! ![]()
lol, I ask myself the same question as far as squat depth goal…granted you are going SUPER low, and no one could say you weren’t getting low enough!!
could you make a make shift rack with steps and risers? ![]()
I wouldn’t call that ‘super’ low.lol. It’s a good depth, of course, I consider PL depth pretty high. Unless you’re a bodybuilder, then PL depth is pretty low. It’s all relative!
It was nice to meet you today! PM me if you need any info re: competing. Let me know if you want to get together to train with commands. I’ll see you in March!
Got to meet pushmepullme AND soldog today. Great people are strong and kind! Thanks guys, see you in March.
Arachne will compete in March. I might be the weakest but I will be there. ![]()

Thankyou,Thankyou,Thankyou,Thankyou! for being my video crew/cheering section today spiderlady!
And who was the guy up front that you paid to cheer me on too?
oooo, exciting stuff!!
Dog: You were awesome! I don’t know who that guy was, but he was pretty knowledgeable. I think maybe he was from the RMLC.
Kimba: I met our third long lost sister at the meet. Same size, 44 years old, similar bench. I was describing my squat set up to her, and I got to thinking that the depth when I sat on the step isn’t my actual depth, since I usually just brush my butt on the step. It’s more a safety than a box. I was really startled by that depth when you pointed it out, but if you look at the 105 squat you will see I’m not usually that deep.
