Talenaah just remember if you can make it through the first three days, it’s all good. I still remember praying at random that I NOT land on my right buttcheek again. (pleasepleaseplease)
That is some pretty hardy pressing.
For myself, I suck at repeating the same movement (pressing, pulling whatever) during a workout. I know that I do better by mixing stuff up.

I learned snowboarding in Lake Tahoe during a winter where they had so much snow it was up to the telephone wires. Falling was no problem – right into a cushy, powdery snow drift.
The next time I tried it was in New Hampshire, where the snow is hard and the surface, bulletproof. I skated off the lift, promptly fell onto my right hip and it hurt so bad I almost started to cry.
So, yeah. Give it three good days before deciding thumbs up or down!

I tried boarding last year 4 days through the season but without a lesson. This year I start with a half day lesson…
the hobbit also skis… and swears im gonna have to try it this year. any tips you give based on your snowboarding experience would be appreciated! (even though i know they’re not the same!)
hell yeah for getting to 1rm multiple times during your workout! I love leaving the gym knowing i’ve left it all on the floor. or the rack.
as far as strengthening your hips, you’re doing a lot of that already, esp with the pistols. anything 1 legged will be awesome for your winter sports of choice. for your neck, i believe it was a recent wendler interview that spoke of resting your head on a stability ball, and doing “neck crunches” of sorts… im too lazy to look it up atm but if its still sore i have a few days.
skiing is LAME. get a board or gtfo!

I would pay big money for the entertainment involved in seeing CBear on skis for the first time. ![]()
In all seriousness, I think you’d be good at it. Strong legs and ass are the key. As well as disinhibition: strapping boards on your feet and sliding down a steep, slippery hill isn’t the smartest thing we’ve ever done.
Take a lesson from a handsome ski instructor, spend a half a day on the bunny slopes and you’ll be good to ski the blue runs for sure.
Although I totally understand the allure of boarding, I’m back on my skis pretty much 100% of the time. My absolute favorite thing to do on a week-day ski is to hit an empty, flat, hard-pack, steep, wide trail and clean the sucker downhill-style with zero-to-minimal turns. Good times.
i don’t know if there is a particular allure of boarding, for me. me mind just seems to think i would do less damage to meself on a board. i picture the skiis going cross-ways, wrapping up around my neck as i fall down. i figure the strength of my legs/ass and slightly above average balance would help me on a board.
yeah, Claire, how abouts some video you skiing??
t runs for cover after video comment
if/when i ski there will certainly be video involved. in fact, it will be a condition!
t, you barely post videos of successful lifts, im willing to post my bare ass and my failures. no need to run, just sit there and realize u have a long way to go before i care enough to be offended by something u say.
kimba- that weekday ski thing sounds… ridiculous and amazing.
Kimba, bombing big groomers is fine but sushing around trees in deep powder is where it’s at and for that I require a board.
Cbear, if you are riding snow on the east coast, stick with skis. Ice is too hard on your ass.
My training was screwed these past few days because of 8-5 management training. I’m at the gym tomorrow for squats and deads and then off for the weekend to celebrate my mom’s 70th b-day yay.
Happy lifting all of y’all!
Oh and by the fucking way, being in class for 9 hours straight did not allow me to EAT so I lost another goddamn pound.
Not that I’m irritated or anything.

sadness for you not being able to eat for 9 hours…oh, the horror. i can’t go for more than 4 hours without getting violent.
damn you people and your easily lost pounds…
Claire, i posted that PRIOR to my video post, me ducking was not for fear of offending you, but for the rash of shit you would be throwing my way for me not posting a video yet.

Gotcha. Trees and powder do demand a board. I suck total ass at trees and, well, powder? Whats that powder you speak of?? Ice. I know ice.
One of the funniest things I’ve ever seen was many years ago at Winter Park. End of the day, the main trail to the lodge was just a wee bit icy. All the Western skiers were picking their way down, all skeered and shit. East Coast visitors were all like, what? and we blasted by, edges biting in, laughing our asses off.

Work interfering with training is just totally wrong. Happy b-day to your mom! I hope she’s in good health and enjoying herself.
P.S. Eat like its your job. I always keep almonds and a bar or two in my purse for emergencies. I’m shameless and will eat that almost anywhere if’n I have to.

Great day today!
Squat: 1x5 65, 75, 85 1x2 95 and 1x1 100 < 100 is my ‘good form’ 1 RM so I’m at least equal to where I was before I got sick and lost weight. I’m quite sure I can put on another 5 or 10 next week.
Dead: 1x5 45, 95, 135, 145 1x1 155, 160. < 145 is my new 5RM yay, and 160 is just 10 below 170, where I was before sickness which is my December goal.
On that note, I have a question. When you all do multiple reps on deads, do you always touch the floor in between reps, or do you short it a little? I am shorting it a little so I don’t bang the plates on the floor, but I just thought today I might be undertraining that first motion off the floor. Thoughts?
Chinups 1x4 with 12 lb db < just continuing to reinforce that motion. Chinups are really a MWF thing but I’m leaving town tomorrow.
BB lunge: 1x5 45, 55, 65 v15 < I’m interested to see how much more difficult the push back up is on one side than the other. This is an easy lift to cheat and I’m not cheating.
Have a beautiful weekend everyone!

Kimba, I learned to ski in the Poconos, and when I first moved to Colorado I was like “what the hell is this stuff all over my skis?”
Talenaah and Kimba, The first day of this class I almost passed out by lunch, the second day I brought little containers of food and ate throughout the class, and I had complained so much the previous day they brought in trail mix and chocolate. Whew! Back to 109.5 this morning!

NICE! Apparently the stars and planets lined up for a good squat week for small lifters!

160# means we are dead even at the moment. ha ha…dead even.
Not only do I touch the floor between reps, but I re-set up my form every rep. The only time I touch n’ go is my final low-weight speed reps. Meat’s advice was to re-set up every rep because touch n’go degrades form significantly for beginner deadlifters as the set progresses.
And, I absolutely clang the weights on the floor (or riser if less than a 45# plate) on every rep. Otherwise, isn’t it sort of an RDL???

Exactly. Freaks me the hell out.

OK, but there is still 2.5# still to eat up. You can do it!

I fully intend to pass your dead ass next week
Especially since you are dusting me on squats.
I will start add the re-set up every time and I really appreciate the info. But I have to tell you I have no idea what you mean by “it’s an RDL.” I have been really confused about the difference. Please elaborate!
