Congrats on the deadlift PR!

I’m pleased to announce I hit my deadlift goal of 170 lb today. At 165 and 170 is the first time I felt like the weight was stuck to the floor and then came up. At lower weights, I felt the pressure in my feet, and worried about form so as not to hurt myself but I never really questioned that the weight would move. That’s three goals out of five.

Congrats! It appears you’ve offiically hit 1.5 x bodyweight. At least!

I’ve not yet experienced “stuck to the floor”. My 160# went up pretty easy, just form issues. I’ll bet when I try 165 or 170 I’ll know what you mean.

Oof! I am sore today in places I didn’t even know I had. None of it feels like bad soreness, but I can see I need to go slow in my progression to get all the little muscles in shape. I’m assuming it was the deadlifting but I did also shovel snow.
Snowboarding tomorrow (yay!) so no lifting.

you are strong and you break bricks!! Thats wild about the snow…can’t say I miss it; lived in Maine for 4 years…it was cool to have for x-mas and all that…but snow in May?? Thats retarded!

Wow! I missed a bunch!! Love the progress - love it, love it…

My black belt test has been officially set at 19 December. Nervous! My cardio is not up to par just yet, so sprinting and running regularly now. Hopefully I won’t fall over dead. Any pointers??

Funny about all the skinny mini’s here. Can I join the club??

Haven’t been to FA in months (and I actually want to compete), I’ll use it as a resource, but I just don’t care for the overall feel. I like directness and honesty and that’s in abundance here…

Hi! I’m late.

Im so excited about your dl pr!! Amazing how it can feel like FOREVER before the weight comes up… so glad it did!

tell us about snowboarding! pics!!!

kimba- get ur own midget.

Oh this is exciting! Review for us what your test involves. As for cardio, sprints are it. Go to a track and sprint the long side and jog the short side. My coach/friend told me sprints are money in the bank right now. You still have time to make deposits you can draw on for the test.
In my school, they push you as far as you can go, which is individual. So just keep working but realize you are going to be ready and not ready at the same time.

Please keep us updated!

CBear,
OMG unfortunately I got so sick on Thursday night. I think it was food poisoning. I have seriously never felt that bad in my ENTIRE LIFE. I won’t go into details but I missed snowboarding and stepped on the scale at 104 lbs Saturday morning #%#$! So, snowboarding rescheduled for next Friday and calories being taken in frequently. Thanks on the deadlift, I was very excited. I’ll be hammering the squat the next few weeks.

What’s this about a midget??

We got about two feet of snow, and it’s almost all gone. Two snow days, yay!

Well, since you asked respectfully.

Arachne, I need to find a good way to weight single leg hip thrusts, and CBear won’t give me her midget.

Food poisoning is awful! I’m glad you are better and eating up.

Kimba,
Is there any way you can share the midget? Like some sort of a tandem-king’s-chair-hipthrust?
Otherwise I’m going to have to recommend Craigslist because I haven’t seen too many midgets I’ve on T-Nation. Although if I shrink any more you could probably use me!

CBear has nixed the sharing. I am on my own midget-wise.

Actually, what I should really do is take up Bobbi’s suggestion from awhile ago…get some chains at the Home Depot. That would look pretty bad-ass too.

You are not a midget…at least not compared to me. EAT!

lol at the idea of walking into a gym with your own chains. love it! thought about it myself a few times, just havent decided it was necessary, yet.

arachne that SUCKS about the food poisoning! like you don’t already know! oh i feel bad for you! I’ll take it a little easier on the voodoo doll next time.

if kimba hasnt already told you, molly posted a video of me doing hip thrusts with one of our friends/workout partners the last time i was in lexington. its in my log, a few pages back. too lazy to go look. and im not in possession of the original, so i cant repost it for ya.

Well, the test has:
10 ITF forms Chon Ji to Kwan Gae,
preset combinations (there’s about 40 total which start as easy as 2 jabs to as difficult as a forward jump spinning hook kick with back leg high round house mid-level sidekick following by a spinning backfist and reverse ridgehand),
75 one steps,
75 self defense moves (with 15 that must be something the instructor has taught or with use of props such as a rooled up magazine, cane, etc),
5 belt defense techniques, 5 advanced knife defense techniques,
5 advanced club defense techniques,
demonstration of various kicks and strikes, advanced combinations that the instructor will simply call out,
breaking (I can do my own routine - would like to do a speed break and he’s mentioned bricks otherwise it’s 3 1 inch boards without spacers),
20 2 minute rounds sparring (that’ll be shortened up 'cause some rounds he throw a second person in there during the last 45 seconds or so) and
1 round where he’s put in every person he can.

The sparring is really meant to push you. He knows at most we’ll have 3-5 decent rounds, the rest is simply a gut check - prove you really want this. Other stuff is a 3 page paper on the history of TKD and a bunch of Korean language.

So, any pointers you have, I’d love!! I have started sprints - I usually do the treadmill though, still it’s what I had to do for my last test. Of course, I’m trying to gain weight while doing all of this. :frowning:

Sorry about the food poisoning!!! :frowning:

Hope you are feeling ok!

Thanks CBear and MIM! I’m feeling pretty good this am after about 11 hours sleep and I’m going to try for my regular lifting today, but I will listen to my energy level and eat steadily today. CBear, if you have a voodoo doll that does that, use it on someone else ok??!

Yep, there’s the part that will really challenge your fitness… Bag the treadmill immediately, imo. It’s just not enough, the motion is too limited, and it doesn’t force you to push your self to your limits at that moment. You are a blackbelt and you know how to kick your own ass for 20 seconds. Go to the track. Also do you do any cardio kickboxing? I found it really useful coming up to blackbelt to just kick and punch the crap out the of the bag for 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off, four minute drills.

More later! This is so exciting!

Whew. First day back for squats and I’m not even posting numbers. I was weak as a kitten and my legs were trembling! But, I felt… healthy somehow. Later, I felt exhilarated for the first time in a week. That’s a normal state for me so I guess I knew what I was missing… lifting!

Anyway, I’ll hit it again tomorrow and hopefully get a decent workout in to chat about.

Over and out powerful women.
