Speeding / Racing / Car / Highway Stories

Just last weekend, I went hiking up in Auburn along the American River when I came across a windy, hilly, 8% slope, 6 mile long road.

Had my car (a 5-speed manual '03 eclipse GTS, so nothing amazing, but quite enough for some spirited driving) in second and third gear the whole time making tight, right handed hair pins at 20MPH up to fast little straight aways up to 70MPH). Obviously, 70 isn’t all that quick, but on roads like these, it kinda is, hah!

Easily the most fun I’ve had in a long time!

Doesn’t hurt that, on the way up there, I passed a new generation Z06 and was grinning ear to ear as I slowly passed, admiring the thing. Right as my rear bumper lined up with his front bumper, he downshifted and that thing fucking SCREAMED away from me like I was standing still. He let off after only a few seconds, but that thing was fucking FAST and it sounded incredible.

You wouldn’t believe what a Tesla could do along that stretch!

I don’t drive a fast car at all but it’s still fun to go out and hit some roads every once in a while. There are a bunch around where I live (I imagine there are in CA too) that are just absolutely amazing on a bike. I miss my motorcycle but had some amazing rides. Bombing them in the car just isn’t the same…
