Speeding 30 Mph Over Limit

So being a dumbass teen, i took my first “big” road trip and decided i wanted to get there faster than the speed limit allowed.
It was a 3 hr drive and i woke up at 5 AM to avoid traffic

I was driving about 100 mph in a 70 zone and got pulled over 3 minutes before getting off the interstate.

The officer gave me a citation telling me a need to call the court ( the one 3 hrs away from where i actually live) and schedule a date to go there, he also told me there is a chance i will not get any points or a fine but that seems like total bullshit.

Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and how it turned out for them.

That would be a loss of license in Canada :frowning:

$350 fine and then add about $300 a year extra for insurance over 5 years.

Whatever happens, at least be glad it’s probably a lot less than what would happen here.

You sound like you got off pretty easy for doing 100mph. You chose to drive that fast, accept the consequences.

I’ve heard (I’m not 100% sure, though) that driving 30mph over the speed limit in some states warrants a cop to make you leave the car at gunpoint, as it’s considered potential assault with a deadly weapon.

my recent spedding ticket in CA going 83mph in the 65 zone cost me over 400$. My car insurance company was not involved. Lesson, don’t speed.

damnit, big man has to beat my speed. 59 in 35…24 over. 240$ fine… reduced to 170 plus insurance increase
he caught you fair and square going 30mph over…no chance

Maybe it’s different in Alberta, but in Ontario if you’re going 50 km/h over the speed limit it’s roadside loss of license, car, and a $10k fine.

If my memory serves me correct, going 35mph over is considered “reckless endangerment” as well as a simple speeding ticket in most states.

Well I’ve gotten 8 speeding tickets… ranging from 10-27ish over. I don’t have any on my record and never had to pay the full fine(only have done defensive driving 4 times, but that was in a year and a half :P).

Go to court, if its not settled with the prosecutor then go for a jury trial… state doesn’t have the money to process all the jury trials(its an epic waste of funds) there is a high probability that they will just let you go before trial or the cop might not show up and you will get off as well.

this is in Texas though, just based on experience and from what my cop friend told me.

Yah I think that is total bullshit.
I wish instead of making stupid laws like that they would make it harder for people to get a drivers license.
I just dont get how 30+ years ago when cars werent nearly as safe as they are now at high speeds there were areas in North America that had NO speed limit.
I’m not saying they should have no speed limit again. Raise the speed limits and enforce the right unless passing laws more.

You were driving too fast for a young guy with no experience. Too fast anyway but for a new driver that’s going to get you killed.

  1. Did he write you up at 100 mph? If he put a lesser speed down on the citation you may not get screwed.

  2. You will pay a fine. The only way to get out of it with no points is to plead it out. Some states will allow
you to plead guilty the day of the hearing, directly with the prosecutor. You will pay the full fine and any
court costs on the spot. In exchange they will not charge you points on the license.

Not all states allow this but some do. Find out if Florida does and make a deal. Don’t know how old you are but less then 18 or there about, have your father make the deal for you, make sure he let’s the prosecutor know how pissed off he is at you. That will help also. Might not be an act on his part either!

Good luck. Slow down. Make it to twenty.

Ive gotten my fair share of tix and Ive always hired ticket attorneys to cover my citations. I usually end up paying about 70 for the attorney and another 200 for the court fees but I have no points on my license and I dont have to waste my time in court. Just my two cents.

You’re 20 years old and already have 8 fucking speeding tickets?

How long have you had your liscense?

A couple of years ago I was clocked doing 93 on I95 in Philly.

I got 5 points and had to pay a few hundred in fines.

I’ve since slowed down…and it was REALLY, REALLY, hard to do, too. It had to be done, though.

In Texas you pay the court cost, and do defensive driving within three months of the ticket. After that, they dismiss it, never to be heard from again.

Sense I was 16, keep in mind I’ve also lived in Rochester NY for roughly 2 years give or take and all those tickets are from Texas :stuck_out_tongue: I just have terrible luck, I don’t generally speed… just get caught when I do.

Just finished up a lengthy trial ordeal took roughly a year, just because your court date is so far off and I had to return a million times. Had 2 tickets… 1 I got while on a “ticket probation period” from the first. They lost me in the system, it all got flustered and I just went to a jury trial… my 3rd jury trail for tickets :stuck_out_tongue: and it was dropped along with about 7 other cases on the schedule. I didn’t pay a dime other then gas money.

I just got pulled over yesterday morning for going 76 in a 50 -_- . The trooper cut me a break though and only gave me a ticket for going 15mph over the speed limit.

Since I got pulled over a little while ago for doing 35+mph in Florida I thought I would chime in on what you should do.

  1. Hire an attorney
  2. There is a good chance you will have to pay the ticket of around $400-$500.
  3. 4 points on your licence that can’t be removed except with time if you are found guilty or plead down by your lawyer.
  4. Suspension of licence for 30 days, luckily a lawyer will help you out with this and can probably get you to keep your licence so insurance won’t be that bad.
  5. Buy a faster car next time.
  6. Buy a faster car w/ a radar.

Yeah I got careless driving ticket a while ago doing like 80 in a 50…fml!! Cop straight up thought I was drunk as fuck (as was insanely tired and speeding, swerving and shit). Was my fault though for driving tired.

200 $ ticket and 3 points. Cop was real pissed when he found out I wasn’t drunk, he left disappointed as hell lol.

Show up to the informal hearing asking for probation (as I have a squeaky clean record) and cop made me look even worse when he lied!! Saying he issued me a warning in the same area before for something similar. Looking back I should have just got a damn ticket attorney.
