Here we go again! Can Bean Town step up and FINALLY get over on the Yankees? I’m pumped for the series starting tonight. Yankee fans have all the room in the world to talk, since they ALWAYS beat the Red Sox. BUT, I really think this year they will beat N.Y. The addition of Schilling was HUGE. His toughness and experience is what I think the differnce will be. I’m not even a Red Sox fan, (I’m a HUGE Cubs fan-and they just had to break my heart again) but I love the playoffs and this series should be another good one. Where do you all stand? Ho hum, Yankees win again, or does Boston get it done?
Dani your pic is pretty impressive keep up the good work. Now being from Boston this is a very stressfull time for me. I think the Red Sox can win but I have been waiting for a World Series Title for 25 years. I still have nightmares from my childhood watching Buckner tear both his hammy’s on his lame attempt to get a slow roller up the first base line. I hope they can get it done we will find out a good deal tonight.
Yanks win tonight to set the tone - win AL championship in 6.
BTW - if you are into this series, you will want to keep up with Bill Simmons’ articles on ESPN’s page 2. He is a life long Red Sox fan from Boston and he writes great sports stuff. His “Bird Crap” article (summarizing the match up) was great.
Yankees in 6? I’m going w/ Boston in 6. But I see where ur coming from, history is on your side. Just like it’s hard to pick Texas to beat OU 'til it actually happens, it’s difficult to pick Boston. But I hafta do it, go Red Sox!
McKenna, at least you get to be stressed. Last year I was very stessed watching my Cubs and thought I’d get the chance again this year. But I guess bitchin’ about the umps and getting mad at their announcers was more important than getting to the post-season. Son of a bitch!!!
Yes it is hard to pick the Sox because of history. But things are meant to change and I think this has a chance to be the year. It is really going to come down to pitching as it always does. Boston’s bullpen is really going to have to step up when called on. Schilling is good for atleast 1 win and a good chance at 2. Martinez needs to bring his A game because late in the year he can go either way. But he is looking stronger now than he has in past playoffs. Wakefield will be a big key.
Starting pitching- Sox
Bullpen- Yankees
Offense- tough one but I give the edge to the Sox for pure offense but in a close game the Yankees are dangerous.
I take the Sox in 7.
Gotta go with the hometown Red Sox. Gotta love and hate them. It’s like an abusive relationship…they always beat you and hurt you, but you always seem to come back to them.
Game 1 was a tough loss, pretty good game on both parts, even though Schilling had a horrible game. All I know is that I’ll be watching every game and hopefully won’t be let down again like last year.
Please Red Sox, don’t break my heart.
Sox showed some heart coming back last night - and it was in the lair of the enemy. If they can continue to scrap, they’ll take at least one off the Evil Empire at home, and then go back to Fenway to defend the homefield and rely on a little Fenway magic.
Unfortunately, I think St. Louis has the best team in the league this year – it would suck if the Sox beat the Yanks and then didn’t win the Series. However, Houston matches up well with the Cards, and even came out on top of the head-to-head matchup this year, so maybe there’s some hope (Hope is a dangerous word for a Red Sox fan…).
I am in dire need of a win this Friday and if I don’t get it I will be pissed. Schill is out for the rest of the season and things are not looking good, but what else is new in Red Sox Nation. I can hope for the best, and just watch it crumble like I do every year.
It’s funny how people were calling the Yankees “underdogs”. Whatever. Big deal, the Red Sox have better starting pitching. The Yankees have pretty damn good starting pitching too. The Yankees are the Yankees and that is why they are beating Boston AGAIN.
Wouldn’t doubt it if that happens Lexie.
But I may be in a real perdicament. Being a Cubs fan I can’t root for the Cardinals. However, unless you’re a Yankee fan, you can’t want them to win. Man, I just hope the Sox or Astros come back, otherwise I’m in a lose-lose situation.
Many people are counting out the Red Sox now that Schilling is out. But remember last year, the Sox/Yankees series went to game 7, and the Red Sox performed the whole season w/out Schilling. I think Schilling was a great assett and it hurts to lose him, but I dont think that it automatically counts the Red Sox out.
Bring the World Series back to Fenway!
Manny can mash, but his baseball I.Q. is lower than my 2 year old niece’s. Weren’t we taught not to make the 3rd out at 3rd base in 3rd grade! He kills me, but will probably come back w/ a bomb later on in the game…or do somin’ like tag up w/ 2 outs.
Red Sox are making a BIG comeback as I type…
