Bought some strew meat (beef) tonight. Browned it a bit in a pan with garlic and onions and then sent the contents to simmer in a bit of water for about 4 hours. Result was nice tenderized meat. Break that apart a bit… boil some red potatoes. Cut them up. Add a bit of tomato paste, some more water for the base of the soup/stew… get that going then dump in a bunch of frozen veggies. (peas, corn, lima bean, green bean, carrot)
Also throwing in a liberal amount of celery. Get that going that going, then lastly, a throw in the potatos and a bit of parsley. Dashes of salt, pepper, dill weed and cyanne to taste. Don’t have any bay leaves… Destroys canned soup. All under 10 bucks, probably 8 servings.

Now if this thread takes off and becomes popular, you’ve proven me and my picture wrong.

soup is not a meal, that’s all I have too say about soups
And stews? Come on this is not the 1600’s and I’m not Oliver twist[/quote]
lol dumb.
First soups are econonomical, the point to them is to stretch the food you dont have.
but yes I make soups and stews.
I will throw in red potatos, chicken, beef, carrots, celery, garlic, salt and pepper and some corn cover with water and put in a pressure cooker.
i set the time for 20 mins before I get home and walk out the door, when I get home I have a hot meal ready to get spooned over rice.
BTW the stuff i toss in there is frozen so it thaws in the pot.
I also like to take chicken and various vegies and toss them in frozen as well and spoon over noodles when done.
my favorite would be traditional mutton stew.
mutton, corn, beans, vegies, tossed in and slow cooked.
I tend to make everything easy so its more time for eating.
but nothing wrong with a hearty bowl of potatos and beef stew. can pack away 2000 calories in a bowl sometimes.
whats wrong with a bit of soup to start off a big meal? i like to keep thing simple in the kitchen and my fav soup has to be turkey and leak. its soo simple, i just cut up 4 leaks nice and small and then do the same with 2 heads of cellery, wack them in a pan with about 2lts of chicken and vegetable stock for about 15-20mins, then i cut up a turkey breast into really tiny chunks and add them to the mix for about 5 mins. done. it only keeps for a couple of days, but it makes a tasty starter to my main meals.
