Well, it’s one thing to realize we can’t have what the elites possess. But it’s another entirely to miss out on what’s taken for granted by the majority.

I myself, and many others, do this every day. It becomes routine and you don’t even think about it.

I find the best that can be done in those cases, is to understand it only appears “everyone has this”, but that there are others like us who don’t. Solidarity in suffering, because suffering alone is a burden far worse.

This can be managed in the form of support groups, or an event such as Special Olympics or Take Back the Night. Though, it can suffice to know that if we suffer then so too must others. Solace has in the past come to me that easily.

The best we can do is to join a support group since we don’t want to suffer alone??? lol … whatever. Some of us just choose to go on living.

Quick, dont post on T-Nation anymore. And make sure you dont visit the gym anymore and make more strides than most who do have use of their legs do. Why dont you just curl up in a little ball and wait for death to come knocking?

Its inspirational in a sense… but I don’t get very much out of it. Just depresses me that shitty things happen to such good people.

Joking people: You have freedom of speech.

People hating on joking people: When you react you give them just about what they want.

The joke was funny, but it was badly placed and crude in the way it was presented. Shouldn’t have been said, funny as it was.

As to the WTC… remember what Big Uncle Joe said: “One death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic”. It’s sad, but true. Humans tend to feel worse about tragedy when there is a face or name attached (I said TEND, not always true at all).

Making fun of this little girl is like mocking Christopher Reeves or FDR… which has been done actually. When bad things happen to good people, people get depressed. They’d rather laugh then feel depressed, so they joke about it.

I’ve already ordered the Salmon Mousse.

Kailish, do you seriously believe that those people working in the WTC “knew the risks” of working in a skyscraper when the took a white collar desk job?

They could have, it was targetted by terrorists once before.

I have many firefighters as friends. For some, the way they are able to deal with the most gruesome and heartbreaking events they’ve been a part of, is to joke about it.

As another good friend of mine says, if it can’t be laughed at, it can’t be Tao.

I’ll admit that I laughed at the joke.

The child surviving the first time is heartwrenching. The second, it starts to become a bit absurd, given that both were vehicular accidents.

I appreciate that many of you feel for the child, as well as having a national interest in her well-being.

I would not be surprised if Saturday Night Live had done a segment similar to his joke. Many people would’ve groaned, but there would’ve been lots of laughter.

This was probably not the most appropriate time/place to post it, however.

Sometimes people taking things so seriously is what prevents proper healing. I know when shit like that happens to me I love making fun of it (not that I get hit by cars often but it’s happened) and when my family makes a joke about it helps, especially during the process. however I find that our family is incredibly witty, which makes things easier to laugh at.

You know what is funnier? All those yank bastards burning to death and jumping out the windows of the World Trade Center 9/11. Splat! Hah Hah!

ps. Doesn’t feel so good does it? Grow up fat yank.

Fuck you you piece of flaming fucking dog shit. If I ever saw you I would throw your fat ass out of a fucking window after I watched YOU burn.

This thread is proof positive that people will say things on a message board that they would NEVER say face-to-face.

Thank you to the original poster for a very inspirational story. I went and hugged my daughter after reading it.

Truth is people that a high % of kids in 3rd world countries have it just as bad as that little girl on a daily basis from the day they are born. Abused, raped, starved to death, slaughtered like sheep and most of our countries biggest problem is they can’t stop overstuffing their fat asses. This little girl reminds me almost of Ann Frank who lived in a closet for months to avoid the Nazi’s but could only look at the positives of her situation. It will take a catastrophic event for our countries citizens to open their eyes like this little girl did.

Shitty stuff happens. Some people live a long time, some people die before they’re born and everywhere in between. It’s just all part of the fucked up world-there’s really no “justice” and no order beyond what we’ve imposed.

To feel sorry for this person insults her and makes you a hypocrite. If you take something good from this story and run with it, then that’s good. But for fuck’s sake don’t make a big deal of it, worse stuff happens.

Really sorry I posted this now. It’s degenerated into a slanging match.

My intention was that people might read the story and be inspired, be thankful, be touched by the courage, or simply to ignore it if they felt nothing.

It’s a shame that some people can’t be moved, or have a deeper contemplation for their fellow man.

My apologies again for posting this story and causing such anger in people. The exact opposite of the feelings that should have been stirred.

The question is would anyone give half a shit if it was a 30 year old man that this happened to? It’s almost like you’re degrading the girl because she was’nt supposed to make it or some shit. And who ever said worse shit happens is totally right.

Don’t get me wrong I feel bad for her and hope for a speedy recovery but i’m not sorry it happened to her because it just would’ve happened to someone else, everything is balanced in this life that way. Worse shit happens so the most i’m going to do is give her a nod and wish the best, but fuck if that shit happens to me I hope no one makes such a big deal out of it. It will only cripple you from entering back into society “normally”. What should she be put in a shed in the back from now on. Like I said sometimes people talking things so serious makes it harder to heal.

I just thought of something funny, what if she wanted to find an article on her crash in like 10 years and stumbled on this thread…

A kiwi chimimg in here…

I think it’s amazing that Sophie can keep on smiling - what an fantastic little girl.

But I laughed at the joke.

Shocking, but it’s the nature of humour.

Think about any joke that made you laugh - not groan but seriously laugh. If you break it apart and analyse it you can be certain it is based on something unpleasant, cruel or inappropriate. Thats the way humour tends to operate.

I’m not going to voice an opinion as to whether the timing/placement of the joke was appropriate or not, but I do think those that reacted with venom should think about the last bad joke you told - and who would be hurt or angered if they had heard it…

told any blond jokes? Irish/Polish jokes? Jokes about the trapped miners reading porn?
