I’m looking into the Sony HDR-SR1 camcorder and I was wondering if anyone had a reviews good or bad about it. I’ll be using it for various things from vacations to concerts (so good sound and an external mic inupt would be nice).

Stay away from ALL hard drive camcorders (and DVD/Mini DVD camcorders). Consumer ones are not up to par yet. Stick with a Mini-DV one.

Lower resolution on DVD/mini DVD.
Hard drive ones can fail. You dont want to have to spring $100+ if the HDD fails. With HDD you only can store so much then have to archive it to your CPU. With MINI DV you can keep i on the tapes if you dont want to put it on your CPU. Mini-DV is MUCH more stable of a media.
