Something Floating Inside Vial

Noticed something floating in my vial of test, wasn’t there before. Looks like a little piece from the top of the jar must have fallen through when the needle went in. My only guess on what to do now is try to move around it or try to pinpoint it out and catch it with a syringe and lose a small dosage. Any suggestions? If I were to accidently inject some of the particles from it would I be in any serious danger?

Yes. This happens all of the time. No worries. Do try and avoid it, as bonez eluded you do not want to inject that into your muscle as it could easily turn into an abcess. So I always just work around it. Also consider drawing with a slightly smaller pin thats less destructive to your vials. Again, heating the solution will help with this, and it will help sink the bit of rubber.

I just suck it out with the needle. You loose a little bit of gear, but hardly any if you are careful.

You are best to suck it out and get rid of it asap even if that means losing a little bit of gear.

It is a rubber piece from the top of the multi-dose vial which has been cut out because the drawing pin you are using is too large (I had this issue when using 21GA drawing pins…I have started using 23GA 1" for drawing and found it still draws reasonable fast and doesn’t cut out chunks of my vial tops…just make sure you have 1" and not 1.5" length because that extra .5" makes the draw a lot slower).

The issue with leaving it in is that:

  1. You might end up accidentally sucking it up and injecting it which is very bad as it will pretty much guaranteed form an abcess in the muscle where you injected it
  2. The rubber may be slowly dissolved by the solvents in your gear over time and then injected in liquid form into your muscles/bloodstream which is really not healthy (I think it was Morepain that speculated about this causing cancer)…this is also a good reason not to keep gear too long after you start pinning the vial (best to use up a multi-dose vial quickly)
