Tenors are about 5 times cooler and more fun to play than snare.
I saw that one too (it was a tough call which one to post). Here’s the best of both worlds. This stuff just makes me wet. Pure badassness…

Not sure, but it looks like he’s into a light weight/very high rep protocol
Impressive display with the drums.
Overall, IMO, it’s just not that cool since I wouldn’t say it’s “musical” in even the remotest sense of the word. They’re just banging on drums.
It’s like a guy who’s great at tremolo picking a guitar, but can’t really play it all that well.
In terms of “Holy Shit!” factor, that’s pretty neat though.
I should add that I meant the first three videos weren’t musical IMO.
Those last two drumline videos are cool.
Well, it’s not called “rudimental drumming” because of the overwhelming musicality of it all…it’s about displaying chops. It’s not like people actually buy that stuff on CD and listen to it.

I’ll politely disagree with you on this one. Clearly they are not “just banging” All of the drummers are in sync with each other and have specific parts to play. They obviously rehearsed many hours in order to play together as a unit and make the music effective. THe argument what “music is” has been debated and discussed in many of my music therapy courses and basically what makes music MUSIC is the intention. Some classic counter arguments would be “well birds make music right?” Well only the birds can answer that and it can be in the eye of the beholder or the person who is actively listening but I think the main point is the intention. A construction worker who is jack hammering is not making music but is doing his job. His goal is to dig up the street. However, if the intention of his actions are to make specific rhythms with his device, then it can be argued that he is making music because that is HIS intention. I understand that a non-drummer, or someone who doesn’t play music would initially not understand what I am talking about as well but a drummer is a musician and rhythm, dynamics as well as technique are all a part of music which this is. Drum corps is not your typical music but it is played during football games and halftime shows. Drums are thought of mostly as a rhythmic instrument but music can be made in the absence of melodic instruments too.

Well, we could debate what constitutes “musical” I suppose. Let’s pick three random elements that we might say characterize something as “musical”: dynamic contrast, discernible phrases, and at least one thematic foundation – a “hook” if you will. All of these elements were present in the solos. Never mind the unbelievable chops – completely relaxed and not a hint of tension…amazing.
I think it is quite possible (and probably common) to hear something like this and not “get it.” Take, for example, Elliott Carter’s solo timpani pieces. To the listener who may not be familiar with the style, or the works themselves, it may sound like “banging,” when in fact it involves a high level of understanding of rhythm, meter and phrasing to perform, or even to listen to them in a meaningful way.
Much of the intended audience for that type of music is other musicians, and I suppose the same is true here. I am looking (so far in vain) for a transcription of the snare solo.
Enough jibber-jabber though, I only posted it 'cause it’s something different. These kids are the equivalent of the 1,000 pound squatters.

Sounds like you never got the hang of your instrument.
I guess you can say I just impolitely disagreed.
These guys are a big reason why College Football is so damn good.
