Sodium? Hot-Rox? Pre Bed Snack?

First thing, is sodium something that should be of concern on any type of diet, wether it be fat loss, muscle gain or just maintaning what you have? Of all the articles on T-Nation i’ve read i cant remember sodium ever really being mentioned.

I ordered my first supplements ever sunday for my fat loss diet. (im about 12% bf looking to get to 8-10%) They should be here either tommorro or thursday. I ordered HOT-ROX Extreme and Chocalate (yum) Metabolic Drive low carb.

When is the optimal time to take the HOT-ROX? How many times a day?

Also I plan on adding the Metabolic Drive to my oats or yogurt in the morning. Is it also optimal to take a scoop pre bed or is the protein too fast acting? Right now pre bed snack is usually some cottage cheese with a fat. Usually natural peanut butter or almonds.

Metabolic Drive is not a fast digesting protein which makes it good to take before bed.

The one thing I know about HRX is don’t take it after 2pm unless you hate sleep.

Once in a while I take it after 2 depending on when I get up in the morning to keep the 6 hour spacing. It is a little bit harder to fall asleep but I don’t have that many problems. How much caffeine is in a serving size (2 pills) anyways? About how many cups of coffee?

I’ve never had a problem falling asleep while using HOT-ROX.

Granted, some may, but I haven’t.

Sodium makes you retain water. If you run or do cardio and sweat alot that shouldnt really matter. Im not a body builder but I was told it can form a layer over your muscles if you have too much sodium. As for health issues too much sodium is bad for your heart and in the long run can lead to congested heart failure…at least thats what my G/F whos a nursing student told me.

sodium makes you hold onto extra water, which makes your heart work harder. I do not think this could cause heart failure, but if you already have heart disease or are at high risk you might want to watch your sodium levels. I do not think sodium will have any impact on fat loss, but if you are trying to get down to competition bodyfat you would want to decrease sodium intake to lose the extra water. Too little sodium could make it harder to put on muscle mass by disturbing the body’s natural water balance and ph balance and can also cause cramping.

Do some experimenting to see how you react to HOT-ROX. I find that 2 caps upon waking on an empty stomach can sometimes be too strong for me, but taking them with a big breakfast is much more tolerable. I find I respond best to spreading out the 4 caps throughout the day, and I can’t take them after 3 pm or I won’t fall asleep at a decent time. It seems like other people have no problems with HRX, so it’s worth playing around with dosage to find what works best.

The package says take HOT-ROX on an empty stomach…well I eat every 2 to 3 hours. should I wake up extra early, take the HOT-ROX then wait a while before breakfast?

Don’t forget that sodium is only one part of the blood pressure story. Potassium is the other part:

If you eat a “high sodium” intake, make sure that you’re also getting potassium, as well. I believe that I’ve read the ratio should be at least 1:1 or 1:2 sodium to potassium.

Yogurt and mushrooms contain a lot of potassium . . .

I take HOT-ROX first thing upon awakening, and eat about 45 mins to an hour later. About 6-8 hrs later, I take it again, with about an hour on either side, between meals.

I’m gonna do this tommorro to start:

Wake up around 7. Take the HOT-ROX. Either watch sportcenter or go back to sleep till 8. Wake up and eat breakfast and then be into work by nine. 1 or 2 I’ll take the second dose because its inbetween meals. I’m only gonna take half the dose because its my first time ever using something like this.

Well see how it goes.

Well I woke up dead tired, took the HOT-ROX. Didnt watch sportcenter but didnt fall asleep either.

At work around 1 I took the second doze. I took 2 instead of one because I didnt feel all fucked up from just 1. Kept me awake the rest of work so that was good.

I hope this stuff will actually give me results. I feel I’m doing everything right as far as nutrition goes. Timing of my nutrients isnt perfect but its 100 percent clean food and I dont eat hardly any carbs at all past 5 except veggies.

Hopefully its not just an expensive caffiene pill.

BTW Metabolic Drive chocolate is tastey :slight_smile:
