I dont care to watch soccer, but i have a helluvalot of respect for those guys. That’s one hell of an endurance game. If we were talking about boring sports, i honestly think baseball takes the cake…bunch of chubby dudes standing around in a field. I mean, its the only sport that considers having a “D” hitting avg as fantastic lol. Like i always say though, to each their own shrug
I never understood people who got really invested in watching sports. Sure, I guess it can be entertaining to watch, but the people who actually give a shit if someone trash talks “their” team never made sense to me. It’s not YOU playing. I love playing sports, but I’ve never been able to watch them.
I love how these threads could go either way.
There are a few band-wagon jumpers that see the OP is “losing” so they help push him down. If the next two or three posts after his first were supporting him, this would’ve been a thread full of “Soccer is Gay” threads with more videos like SteelyD just posted.
My opinion:I don’t like to watch sports on TV, and soccer is one of the worst.
I can’t watch any sport on TV for more than 30 min without alcohol.
Except Boxing!!
That clip from SteelyD is a classic. I’ve used it in the past to torment my soccer-crazy friends. Nards’ avatars are pretty classic too.

You know what else really helps? Having something important to do. I could even watch darts for hours when I had an exam to study for, or something work related that needed to get done.

No band wagon here. I discovered full contact sports at a very young age. For me, soccer has always been the “soft/lite rock” radio station of sports.
Besides, people who are really into soccer tend to get butt-hurt easily, which makes it more fun. All 5 people that I know who actually follow soccer throughout the year are kinda whiney and wishy-washy. They cry a lot over things like litter and capitalism.

HA, there may be some truth in this
^^ Ha ! That’s great! “Litter and capitalism”
They sound like adherents to that blog “Stuff White People Like”. I know a few people like that.
If you’ve never read the blog, here it is: Maltese Pups Trying to Eat My Camera - YouTube Note: World Cup is the newest entry!
Umm, that’s not right. It’s one of my videos, so I’ll just keep it there.
Anyway, the blog is www.stuffwhitepeoplelike.com
I don’t care about soccer, but I like watching clips of gifted players like Ronaldo.
I think Americans are just conditioned not to care about soccer. Given its popularity in the hardest regions on Earth (Africa, the middle east, etc.) I have a hard time believing that it’s a pussy sport.
I can understand why it would be exctiting, but I find it to be not my taste because of it. I hate investing several hours of gut wrenching anticipation to see it all go down in flames. I like… score…score… SCOOOOOOOOOORE…score. not …pass.pass… BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzz…Kick… yellow card…almost!..goal. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH !!!111111 VIVA LA FUTBOL !!!@!!

I agree with the conditioned not to care… for sure.
Soccer is much much more exciting when you’re invested in a team. If you’re a “weekend warrior…every 4 years” you won’t find it that interesting at all… Americans and low points don’t go well together.(I think basketball is completely retarded but I bet half this forum thinks otherwise… I do respect the players for their ability though).
You have to have a lot of pride in a specific team etc… and that just makes the game that much more exciting. Every action, every close call etc… just gets you going. 0-0 will happen but even then the entire game you’re watching your teams every move just hoping they get one in.
You also have to have some sort of respect for the skill involved which many people assume kicking a ball is easy.
soccer is great because every goal, every game is different. nothing can ever be recreated. in other sports there is a sameness that soccer manages to avoid. (i did a really bad job of explaining this)
the low score magnifies the importance of every goal and heightens the tensions and emotions.
in response to steelyd-- i think what you’re describing is an american phenomenon, in which soccer is the “yuppie” sport. it is not surprising that the people you know who follow soccer are wimpy people. Everywhere else it is a universally appealing support with the most concentrated following among the lower classes.
I, however, was disgusted with soccer today after watching the ghana game. I support the US but will freely admit that ghana outplayed and beat the us fairly. However, during ot, so many ghanaians faked injuries to waste time and as a soccer player it disgusted me.
It angered me knowing that people will see this and i was furious at the ghanians for tainting the image of the sport.
not all soccer players are like this, just like not all bodybuilders at the olympia take steroids…
oh wait…

They play it in Europe.
Europe includes France and Italy. And sometimes Canada, if we’ve decided we really don’t like them.
Does this affect your conclusion?
Psycho-analysis:
While at a bar, OP lost a game of foosball to an overweight chick with facial hair, in front of a hot chick he was trying to impress.
I think its funny these threads always turn out the same: People from both sides, arguing vehemently as if they’re gonna change somebodies opinion. Like someone is gonna read a post here and go “Hmm, I never thought of it like that! Now I will enjoy watching soccer for the rest of my life!”
As for me, not a fan.
soccer is the thing where the ball has those dots right?

I hate US soccer and will say the the US outplayed ghana… they both played like shit the first half but the US dominated the second… their problem is they can never capitalize on the opportunities they are given.
The only reason ghana scored was because of individual mistakes that could have easily been fixed with proper substitutions… and switching Donovan to the middle and Bradley to the outside to give a more experienced player the ball(sense the ball spent the majority of the time landing center field in Bradleys hands)… would have been a wise decision… Bradley is just too young.
As a whole the US outplayed ghana… and I agree OT was disgraceful.
but in the end who cares… Argentina all the way!
