Wow, looks like I should get PRK done soon. I have -6.25 in both eyes, looks like I win. I’m 20 years old though, how does it work for someone my age? I heard they will take a measurement or something, and then 6 months later do another measurement to see if your eyes are still growing or something… not really sure. Thanks.[/quote]
Basically what you just said.
Your eye has to be stable for at 6 months to a year.
Age is completely irrelevant.
Had Lasik two years ago. Don’t exercise for a couple of days - your body needs its resources to heal. I would say 5 weeks is a massive exagerration. Just be sensible, is all. Sex should be OK. You can always plead frailty and make her go on top.
Other than that, definitely a good move. Best thing I ever spent money on.
Your eyes will get seriously dry and the acuity will vary because of this. Don’t panic - it’ll normalise after a few months. Just use your drops.

yeah age isnt the issue, had mine done when i was 18/19. My eyes had to be stable for 12 months, ask your optition should have records, dont need to get tested then wait later, should all be on file.

I also had PRK and would suggest it if it is available to you over LASIK. Once you have LASIK you can not ever have corrective surgury in the future if you happen to need it say in 20 years or something. They actually slice into your cornea, making it less stable, injuries to the eye are also an increased risk.
The PRK method uses acid to burn away the epethielium that covers the cornia, and then they burn the correction onto the surface of the cornia, and then the epethelia grows back over it. This is why it takes a week or longer to recover from PRK and Lasik you are usually god in a day or two tops. My PRK was about 10 days of recovery before my eyes really didn’t bother me anymore.
They put protective contacts over your cornias, DO NOT EVER take them out before the doctor tells you to. I had one fall out and was in excruciating pain. Luckily my doc gave me these magical numbing drops which made any eye pain go away within seconds of dropping them into my eye. I finally got the contact back in while my eye was still numb and it worked out ok, no damage to the eye, I just irritated it a little.
Anyways, My eyesight is a little better than 20-20 so I’m fully happy with the results. My doc was 899 per eye, so it was a pretty good deal to boot. If you can deal with a week or two of discomfort (soap in your eyes feeling) I would definately go PRK, if not I would still do LASIK, but you may still need to wear eye correction down the road.

The PRK recovery is pretty rough, I have to admit. There were several days for me when I could not open my eyes, inside my house with the blinds closed and with sunglasses on, without serious pain.

The Army paid for mine so you should be able to do the same. I would get my name on the list immediately to have it done because it may be a month or two before you have the procedure done.
You also don’t know what your chain of command might say so if you are wanting to do it be proactive.
