Woke up with a cold and feeling a bit out of sorts. Still a good training day.
Squat
5/45
5/75
3/120
1/155 (full gear)
3/170 " "
3/175 " "
3/180 " "
3/225 (bands from top . . . which means I’m only holding the full weight at liftoff and lockout)
3/240 " "
Thanks, nlmain. And not to put down my efforts . . . but remember that these numbers are with gear. And the last two sets are with bands, which helps greatly getting out of the hole.
Kimba, unracking and walking out the weight is the hardest part for me right now. So far I can squat it if I get it walked out. My coach helps some. But there will be no help at the meet! I’ve seen small women unrack and go over backwards. Arrgghh. Practicing heavy walkouts will help.
as for walking weight out make sure you are full of air and holding your breath. squeeze the bar hard arch it out then try and step back one foot at a time. Just one step if you can. Then gain control let some air out fill back up and get ready for the squat command.
i am so excited for you.
when is your meet again ? (yes i am lazy)
have a great night
Jim
lord knows i can’t just post that people might start to wonder three of
my favorite lifting song to bring balance back to the universe
sorry for the hyjack
No problem with the hijack, Jim. I love music (all except for Country) and consider dancing my favorite form of cardio. I’m working on the two-step squat walkout. Getting better. I definitely “dance” my feet less in the cage as the weight gets heavier.
My meet is March 20. Thanks for asking. It’s time to start thinking about my goals for the meet. I’ve always been hesitant to verbalize goals for fear I won’t reach them. And yet there’s no shame in trying; only in not trying. So . . . I am hoping to break all geared state records for my weight class/age. Because I’m old (44)and small (probably weigh in right around 110 for the meet), the records are not impressively high. They currently stand at:
Given my training numbers, I should be able to do it.
My coach told me last night that my pic does not do my back justice. Too much flash, he said, which washed out the muscle definition. What a compliment! So . . . I may drag my sick nine-year-old daughter outside to shoot my back today in natural lighting. It’s so funny to me that I’m doing this because I have historically been so NOT a poser. It’s all part of the plan to build myself a really solid ego.
A wee bit tired today after cleaning up vomit and sleeping with said child in a single bed for half the night before seeking out more comforable quarters . . . which couldn’t include my own bed since that was an earlier vomit repository.
Today’s training:
Deadlift Lockouts (in DL suit pulled from the floor with bands suspended from top . . . only handling full weight from about knee up)
5/150 (straps down)
5/185 " "
5/220 " "
5/250 (straps up and belt for remainder)
3/3/275
1/275 (trying higher belt positioning . . . worked much better!)
1/300
Bentover Barbell Rows
5/8/70
Chinups
3/10 (definitely got some help on the latter reps of the last set or two . . .)
Reverse Grip Lat Pulldown
8/70
4/8/80
Waiting ever so patiently for my tapered belt to arrive. My DL belt is QUITE THICK. I feel it compromises rather than helps my squats . . . hoping I can learn to use my new purple tapered belt for squats.
