Snapper's Strength Sojourn

I’m impressed with that workout. You don’t need no stinkin’ muscle-bone connection!

Well, OK. Maybe you do.

Don’t read shoulder surgery horror stories on the internet. That will just mess with you. Go look at porn instead.

porn or recipes - they are interchangeable

I vote for porn over recipes. Cooking bores me.

Umm, I know I’m torturing myself by reading the surgery horror stories. But I do wonder if I could be left worse off. So much of my mobility has come back over the past few weeks. Not strength, though. And there are certain movements I just can’t do.

Anyway, today was more of the same.

Squat
10/45
5/65
5/75
5/85
5/95
5/105
5/110
5/115
5/120
5/125

Stopped there and went shopping. Got a cute button-up shirt at Forever 21. I don’t usually tend to wear these, but since I won’t be able to get shirts over my head for some time after the surgery, I decided to branch out. Also got some cheap earrings and had a great Waldorf salad.

Cooking bores the living shit out of me. I want a home chef.

Snap, your muscle IS TORN OFF THE BONE. You have no freakin’ choice in this surgery business. Stop reading that stuff. Seriously!

Make sure to buy some cute halter tops. I’ll bet you could make that style work for summer.

x2

It sounds like you have a great surgeon, PLUS you are determined to bounce back from the surgery (and you’re in great shape to begin with). If you’re aggressive with the rehab, the surgery WILL help you!

Yep. Just counting the days now. Talked to a PT I know on the phone tonight. He put a lot of my fears to rest but said the recovery period is quite long for this type of injury. Like it might take me a year to be able to seriously bench again. Kind of hard to hear. But I believe I will come back.

Squats and shopping…nice training combo

And listen to the Kimba…you’ll be back and good as new!

Kimba is the voice of reason.

Snap, great way to train around the injury! very impressive. And that is seriously high volume squatting!

Good idea on the cute button down shirts - if anything, now you’ll have a newly improved wardrobe.

Found a cool website last night that lists all the exercises that target certain muscle groups. I was able to design an upper body program that works various muscles without recruiting the supraspinatus. Very cool. It gave me some good ideas.

Here’s what I did today. Weights are pitifully low. And even so, I left with my shoulder exhausted and somewhat achey. Feels decent now after a few hours’ time and good old-fashioned ice.

A) Seated Incline DB Bicep Curl
3/10/12.5

B) DB Tricep Kickback
3/10/10

A) Bentover DB Row (Neutral Grip) . . . very tricky for me
3/10/10

B) Russian Twist on Bench with 10-lb Plate
3/15

A) Standing Cable Shoulder Internal Rotation
3/10/20

tried to superset with

B) Standing Cable Shoulder External Rotation
NO WAY

A) Low Cable Rope Bicep Curl
3/10/35

B) Single Arm Cable Tricep Pushdown
3/10/20

My goal is to try to keep the muscles surrounding the injured area as strong as possible going into the surgery to aid in a quick recovery. No need to start atrophy any sooner than I have to!

That sounds like a solid plan.

Smart and well-thought out plan. I’d do the same if I were you.

Talk about volume! I really had done too many reps to try to do singles, but I had fun nonetheless and no pain in my shoulder.

When I hit the pins on my last single, an attractive man ran over and helped me unrack the bar. He said he knew I was a powerlifter by the way I approached the bar and was a powerlifter himself. Nice eye candy to chat with and end the gym experience this evening.

well if you’re gonna fail on a squat, how convenient to fail when a helpful hottie is nearby…

you fail on purpose, woman?

not judging, just askin…

cuz i’d consider it.

From what I know of Snapper, she would never fail on purpose.

I’m guessing the attractive man was happy for the excuse to have himself some Snapper-pie. Nothing wrong with this.

Kimba knows me best. Playing helpless female is, alas, not a role I ever play in the gym. Actually, I hadn’t even noticed the guy till he ran over to help.

Snapper-pie. Nothing wrong with that at all!

sheesh kids i was teasing.

Great squats, no shoulder pain, and some eye candy to boot. Sounds like a great trip to the gym!

another PL’er in the your gym? cool!!

curious…what site was it that you found?

Interesting you should ask, M-in-MD. It was included in my original post. Let’s see how long it lasts here:

My coffee tastes weak this morning. How could I have made such a grave mistake?

And I put way too many tea leaves in my Genmai Cha this AM. A bit bitter, but drink it I must.
