Snap Back

It’s so uplifting to sign on and read all of your positive comments.

Thanks for sharing your stories Elaikases and Big Bencher. It’s having experienced the low points that makes the high ones so much sweeter.

What puts me out, Joe, is marital difficulties. Consequently, I’m operating on very little sleep and a lot of nasty nerves. I say this knowing that most of you are married and understand it can be a very tough row to hoe at times. Not looking for sympathy.

I’ll take the slap, LSU.

Did a little upper body work today. Emphasis on “little.”

Bench
8/45
8/55
3/8/60

Close Grip Bench
3/8/50

Lat Pulldown
3/8/70

I’m grateful my shoulder is working even if it is weak.

The highlight of my day
My coach showed up at the gym with new Rehband knee sleeves as a gift to help me with my squat. He knows I’m struggling right now with issues both in the gym and out. What a great friend he is to me.

Nice. That coach sounds like a keeper. Chin up on the rest of it (no pun intended)

Chin up but don’t lead with the chin…

hope things work out for the best

Hang in there Snapper and take care of your self. Given your difficulties, now is not that time to letlet your self be worn down.

That shoulders getting better and better.

Singles on top of Smolov? Brutal. Be careful.

A great coach/friend/mentor is worth his weight in gold. A big cheer for him.

Yup.

Today’s training

Smolov Jr. Day 3
Squat
8/45
5/70
5/85
8/4/100 (90% of bodyweight)

I wore the knee sleeves. They rock. My squats were easy-peasy. Felt fabulous and finally in my groove. I’m actually looking forward to squatting again on Monday. Hopefully this is the start of something grand.

Was tempted to throw some singles in at the end again. But with this volume and frequency, I’ll just end up screwing myself by tampering with the program. In other words, I’m listening Jumpin’ Jack.

What exactly are knee sleeves good for? Of course, I hope you’ll say “knee cave” but I realize that is a vain hope.

Hi Kimba

I’ve been doing a lot of research lately on the TFL (Tensor Fascia Latae) simply because mine gets hammered every time I squat. One of it’s primary roles is forcing the knees out during the squat. Upper glutes also contribute.
Sorry for the threadjack, but I know kneecave has been bothering you.

Snapper - Nice job on the squats. Those good workouts are the ones that keep us coming back.

great workout and great attitude, it’s nice to see Snapper getting some snap back.

OP, I had never heard of this muscle before and had to Google it. Thanks so much for pointing it out. Indeed, I have not yet succeeded in making knee cave my little bitch. grrr.

Knee sleeves are good for keeping the joints warm and fluid. The rest of the benefit is largely psychological, I believe, in that they remind me to stay tight and bounce outta the hole. Would they help with your cave? I don’t really know. I’ve never had knee cave issues, so I can’t advise whether sleeves might help you combat that problem. Anyone?

Today was another solid [upper body] training day in that I felt really strong.

I won’t list all the blah x blah because it’s boring shit and lightweight and meant as a rehab. But I will say that I did 5 x 5 on chins. Was shooting for 3 x 5 but just threw in two more sets. Quite honestly, I could have done more reps/sets. I wasn’t tapped. But I stopped there 'cause I don’t like to strain my shoulder too much.

While I was waiting to do a set, this 22-year-old strong woman came over to do her chins. She’s damn good. And I said to her “Now you’re going to show me up. But I want you to know that I’m more than twice your age and had shoulder surgery not long ago.” She was a bit flabbergasted. Anyway, we shared the bar and looked like a damn impressive duo.

very cool on the duo - would have loved to be a fly on the wall to watch it

Things seem to be going well with the shoulder.

I am betting the Damn Impressive Duo would kick the shit out of the Dynamic Duo. Great work in here.

Along the same lines as your Duo, today while warming up in the stretching area I saw a young 20-ish sweet thang banging out nice pushups with her feet elevated on a bench. I went out of my way to tell her “nice pushups”. So refreshing to see chicks doing real work in the gym.

Today’s training.

Smolov Jr. Week One, Day Four

8/45
5/75
5/95
10/3/106

Easy.

Lots of tits on a stick in the gym today. (Really skinny women with really large implants.)

This coming from a gum drops on a stick? ha. Of course I’m in that club too.

I love my Rehbands. You have a great coach to give you a set. I wear mine all the time now when I don’t wrap. My knees love them and I think the effect of just feeling some light compression makes a mental difference.
