Smile, Sarah.... Smile ...!

??? Based on race, religion, sexual orientation???

If you are in the business of making custom items then asking for that is not asking for something special or extraordinary.

But what about steak? You can order it cooked a specific way. Pizza? You can ask for certain toppings or amounts of toppings. You can ask that it be cooked longer. Oh wait, making a pizza or steak customized to a patron’s wishes is, just like the baker, what they normally do.

So the baker would be fine baking a cake for a gay wedding but not a gay wedding cake?

If the law can’t tell the difference betwwen a generic cake and wedding cake…why would I arm them with a chainsaw where a scapel should have sufficed.

They would be fine baking a geneic cake that they are not aware is/was to be used for a wedding.

Yes, because that’s how a nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all, functions at its best. There is a thread here about nationalism. The way I look at it, if you don’t want to serve your fellow Americans based on race, religion, sexual orientation, etc., then you shouldn’t be doing business in America.

A sin by omission is still a sin. The again, if the baker were a true christian, and not simply anti-gay, we wouldn’t be talking about this.

Want a birthday cake, fine. Happy birthday, sincerely. Just as a simple dessert? Enjoy! For a marriage, which is a sacramental issue for me? Sorry about that, can’t provide that.

A system, people, that can’t make room for such exceptions shouldn’t be producing /judging law.

What if there is going to be a stripper jumping out of the cake?

I’m all for religious freedom but when religious values meet the rights of an American, it’s America first. If people don’t like that they can try and create their own nation somewhere and it will probably end up looking like Saudi Arabia or something.

A people who don’t understand their own supposed religious beliefs shouldn’t be making judgments based on their incorrect interpretations.

But yeah, kick her out. Allow it. Support the ability to do so. I wouldn’t go that far with political “enemies” unless they were asking for a burger with a specific meaning. But hey, allow it.

I do believe she asked that her burger be served with a side of liberal tears.

While I am sure Huckabee (the Dad) also tweeted about this, he detailed the events in an interview, posted on this very thread. I am unsure how a serious person could seriously allege he was being sarcastic.

Now, I get where you could allege Huckabee (again, dad) was lying. I’m not a fan.

But it’s a serious allegation, with many witnesses, and no one has come forward to dispute what he said.

I’m going to have to disagree with everyone here.

I support the restaurant’s right to kick anyone out, including Sanders.

Similarly, I support the baker’s right to not bake a special cake.

I also support everyone’s right to crap all over the baker and the restaurant.

He may not be lying but I would question the sanity of someone who eats sushi from a gas station.

How is that relevant? It’s not a role the government should assume. They shouldn’t be determining if Catholics have interpreted the bible/sacred tradition correctly. Only if an individual should be FORCED to produce a message/symbolic item trespassing what they hold most dear. INSTEAD of, a generic basic necessity. Hungry? I will donate cake to the poor at our next church event. If a broke Nathan Lane himself came up, I’d give him a cake without hesitation and sincerely wish him a wonderful day. If he asked for a wedding cake, I’d politely refuse. If a system really can’t exercise a power without being able to make specific exceptions for the great cake controversy, then it has no business wielding such power in the first place.

So, yeah, I say let the manager kick her out. Also.

Only it wasn’t a special cake. He never baked a wedding cake before?

If he did, I wasn’t able to find it.

Well he also claimed to be kicked out of a gas station where he normally buys sushi and corn dogs for dinner. I’m happy to take his statements as him declaring fact, but then I’m definitely calling bullshit on the millionaire who regularly eats gas station sushi for dinner.

So far I haven’t seen anyone support Mike’s claim other than himself. I have seen the owner dispute what he said. In the absence of real proof, I am choosing to defer to the person without a colorful public history of lying for political gain.

Bingo

And it isn’t the role of so-called christians to hide behind their beliefs to discriminate against their fellow citizens. Religious freedom does not free you from being an American. The Jehova’s Witnesses choose religion first and what would happen if we all followed that faith? We would have been conquered a long time ago.
