Sleep Paralysis

My way of urgently waking up from sleep paralysis is to try and make a noise by breathing really hard, although I normally just ride it out by staying relaxed - something which is a lot harder to do when positioned awkwardly i.e. sleeping on my front or with my airway blocked by bedcovers.

Oh man, i feel you on that one lol. I used to live in Mendocino county in California, the nation’s capital for weed and, of course, druidism/wikka/witchcraft lol. The house I was living in was literally IN THE HILLS, way out in the cuts. The local druids/witches were pretty fond of this area (literally about 300 to 500 feet away from my house!), as I could hear them when I went to bed every night chanting and going through their rituals and whatnot. CREEPY AS HELL! lol. This made for some pretty trippy sleep paralysis experiences (not to mention dreaming in general), if you could imagine ; )

damn ever since stefanogym stopped posting this thread got dull.

like everyone else here i have had these things, generally on and off, and sometimes with as much as a year between.

Sleeping on ones side helps, as do both living and going to sleep in a calm and safe environment

I find some suplements make them worse- the ones that give you that extra buzz when you are awake sometimes make it easier to do weird ass stuff when your asleep.

Seems you’re just looking for the advice telling you to go to the doctor. Do what you want, but the part about relaxing into it is absolutely spot on. I actually used to have the exact same thing and would try to wake myself up by trying to turn my head since I thought I wasn’t breathing. Only you actually are breathing, and your body will not suffocate itself.

But now I’ve gotten so fond of the feeling of trying to move my body while half awake and not being able to. It’s kind of a trip since you think and feel yourself moving your arm but then you realize that it didn’t even budge an inch.

Anyways, don’t freak out about it; it’s fairly normal. Lucid dreaming is quite awesome too, and sleep paralysis is very much related.

I never sleep on my stomach just because it’s uncomfortable for me. I guess it would have made my attempts at lucid dreaming a lot scarier if I woke up face down, paralyzed, and then had some reduced ability to breathe from being on my front. lol All the more reason for me to sleep on my side/back I suppose

Yeah this has happened to me a few times. I have like a sub-conscious freak-out, but it only lasts 2 seconds at most. I seriously try to move my body like fucking crazy when that happens and I eventually wake up/open my eyes to find myself jumping around in my bed, lol.

I stopped writing because I respect his idea, so he will not read anything else from me at that regards unless he asks me.

I live my life in integrity, because I know we all are one, and this I mean with living in integrity: respecting everybody else’s idea, totally validating it, not detracting anything from it, because if I would do the contrary I would simply detract from myself also, I would crystalize my reality I wouldn’t be the creator of me anymore, blocked on a position.

So I keep always neutral, at zero point… like in the middle of the infinite symble…so doing I have always choice, I can go here and there, my reality remains moldable, and I have control over it! Cuz I create it, that I know or not, but I know, so I live the way  I follow my excitement, I do all the things that I like, nothing else, and this I can because I allow also the other things to be equally valid. I am not stuck.

I accept the synchronicity: that means I accept the scenario… I know that everything that happens is there for a reason and has to be like it is, if I live the way I depicted , so I simply accept it, being in the absolute knowing that it will lead me where I prefer. I trust this process 100%

I have had sleep paralysis as long as I can remember. It really used to bug me when I was younger because I didn’t know what it was until I was in college. Even now that I know what’s going on it’s still not a pleasant feeling, but sometimes on the nights it happens I do have some kick ass dreams.

Didn’t really know where to post this but I have had sleep paralysis (i know I’m awake but I literally can’t move or open my eyes. I can breath but only through my nose) a lot lately and I don’t know what to do about it. I don’t have any sleep disorders at least that I have been diagnosed with. I used to get it once in awhile when I was younger (like 10ish) but I have be getting it on a regular basis for the past couple months now. It scares the shit out of me. Sometimes when this happens I can barely even breath out of my nose. Usually I can calm myself down and make myself wake up but sometimes that doesn’t work. Idk basically what I want to know is has had this before and what they did to combat it. Idk if I should just go to a doctor or what. Thanks for the help.
Does this only happen when you lie on your back? Serious question. I only ever get it if I lie on my back with my hands/arms on my chest.

If I’m on my side, I’m ok. Yes, it does feel absolutely horrible - I find it extremely hard to breath when it happens (or so that’s the perception) and I’m usually trying to catch my gf’s attention by shouting for her, but can’t get the sound out.

It feels like it goes on for 20-30 seconds, and that with each passing moment I’m going to die! However, it has only ever occurred in clusters, and now I’m able to deal with it quite quickly.

I simply focus on wiggling my toe (serious) and it wears off in an instant.

PS I once woke up staring at the ceiling. Except the ceiling was populated by two WWI soldiers. One of them had his legs blown off, and blood was dripping from the ceiling and onto my hands and chest.

Then he began wailing like a fucking banshee whilst the other soldier crawled along the ceiling with a knife in his hand and he kept asking me to kill him. Oh yeah, he had a huge hole in his stomach. Again, blood dripping straight onto me.

I freaked so hard, and my family found me trying to open the front door of my house at 3am.

This was the day after I read a book about trench warfare during a history class.

OKAY

on a serious note here, for like two seconds.

I just talked to my friend about this because my theory was: You have sleep apnea, and dream about being paralyzed. While the paralysis thing was a figment of your dream, the choking was very real.

After talking to my friend, who actually talked to a doctor about this exact thing, I’d suggest you get the sleep apnea checked out. The paralysis thing is most likely related to anxiety. You feel half awake, but only your brain is functioning full throttle, the rest of your body is still in sleep mode. His recommendation for that is to chill out, maybe smoke a bowl before bed (if you’re into that kinda thing) and relax. You’ll fall back asleep.

HOWEVER in combination with the sleep apnea, again your best bet is to talk to a doc.

Oh and Grain of Salt. this is the internet after all.
“THIS”

Straight up, go to your doctor and have them send you to a clinic to have a sleep study done. You will have to stay over night but hey trust me man I have been there.

I like how everyone tries to ostracize stefano but it didn’t work to make him react. Your egos could not receive its sustenance by sadistically making fun of him, its no use… everyone just ignore him.

My opinion: Man up, let it happen. Don’t get scared, if you’re not having negative health issues, its not sleep apnea or any of that shit. OR you can take the advice of the others and go to a doctor to get studied, sent to clinics, given drugs, called crazy because its all in your head or some shit.

For all we know, it can be something natural because its so common that doesn’t need any fixing.

Its happened to me a few times, even hallucinated while it happened and heard weird shit. Does it scare me? no because its happened so many times its just like “oh its this again. just let it run through”.

I did notice that when it first started happening, I tried to fight it and it happened more often… then when I just let it happen and not give a shit anymore, it has not happened in months. You should try that.

You know what’s weird? I read this thread last night as I was nodding off and I had sleep paralysis. The first tone I had it in college I honestly thought I was possessed by a demon- I felt like I was floating, I landed on the floor, and I heard demonic laughter.

Since then, when I have it I hear a noise kinda like feedback from a microphone when it’s not the solid note and it’s kinda like… Well it’s hard to describe. But I am learning to slip in and out if it when it happens- I can have it, come back a little, then have it again usually three or four times

to the OP :

you should seek psychiatric help.
ASAP.

i mean
do you realize that you are asking for advices about a health problem that “scares the shit out of you”… in a forum titled “Get a Life” … and populated by aliens abductees, strange animals, death metal fans, people who play with axes and other american weirdos.

regardless of your sleep quality, it’s not really a sign of sanity

it is exactly what I tried to let him discover by himself with my last post… we literally become the idea that we have. So he is become the Idea that he has  it is simple physics :)))

^^^This and they have a whole bunch of websites dedicated to this kind of stuff:

I looked this up a couple years ago when a friend told me it was a sign of mental issues. I wanted to check it out since I have this happen a few times a year. I usually end up yelling some shit that finally comes out (the first several yells or speaking attempts don’t make any noise) and I wake up and then don’t want to go back to sleep again.
Sort of related, had a dream last night where I was flying and my first thought was I was going to drop like a rock out of the sky and I didn’t want any part of that, but a still, calming voice said “you’ll be fine” and I got to fly around a bunch with some pretty cool sensations to go along. And no, was not on peyote prior to going to bed.

thanks for that link jibster. I am planning on seeing a doctor next week to talk about this. To Kamui I posted this because I was wondering what people did to combat this problem. I know not to take what people say on here as gospel however if I can avoid going to the doctor and paying medical bills when a simple “don’t sleep on your stomach” may be the answer I am going to post here 1st to avoid a $500 bill. I do however appreciate everyones input on the subject and I am glad that this is not as uncommon as I previously thought.

Just had to say that this has by far been one the best threads I’ve read in my life.

Carry on.

Alien jesus bs… Fucking LOL
