Sleep Disturbance When Starting Out?

Is sleep disturbance common when starting out? Yesterday was only my 2nd shot. Doing 100mg of test c once a week. Felt so overstimulated I tossed and turned all damn night. First shot didn’t do that to me. Been looking forward to the benefits including better sleep. Not expecting insomnia as a side effect.

Stress and subsequent sleep disturbance is what first tanked my hormones several years ago. Dealing with my stress, sleep hygiene, daily exercise, and micro dosing THC/CBN gummies has had me sleeping 7 hours a night for the past couple years. Was hoping TRT would get me up to 8+ hours.

Is this something I just need to ride out while my levels stabilize? Not scheduled for more bloodwork until after week 6.

Thanks.

Why would you think this? TRT often hinders sleep quality due to higher HCT values.

Among other things, there can be many symptoms when you start out on TRT because your hormone levels are in flux.

So much is going on underneath the surface, your stacking endogenous T on top of exogenous T while you’re also beginning to shutdown your HPTA axis.

I had no problem sleeping when my hematocrit was 57% percent, I didn’t have any issues at all.

I would expect a significant portion of men to experience nipple sensitivity and burning sensation at the three to four week mark, intensifying up to 6 weeks, leveling off and then completely disappearing weeks later or even months later.

Your energy levels may fluctuate throughout the day, libido and erectile strength coming and going.

If you’ve ever been on a roller coaster ride, then you get the idea.

All of these unpleasantries I didn’t experience on Jatenzo because I reach a steady state in 7 days allowing my body to adapt quickly and spend less time with my hormone levels and flux.

Improved sleep is one of the "benefits"typically mentioned in advertisements for TRT around here.

Example:
“If you are struggling with sleep disturbances, considering low T as a potential cause could help you find a durable solution. For many men, that solution lies in using hormone replacement therapy for sleep problems may allow you to re-establish healthy patterns and protect your long-term well being.”

Someone sounds like a sales rep for jatenzo for as many posts as you have

So few doctors are aware that an oral option even exists, so one way of finding out about it is on these forums.

I didn’t find out about Jatenzo from my doctor, I found out about it on these TRT forums.

As for sounding like a sales rep for Jatenzo, I’m not worried about how it looks, the only benefit I get from it are benefits of therapy.

This is a fair point, it’s also worth noting that High T can cause sleep disturbances.

I haven’t been on the forums for quite a few months but here are my thoughts. I am on cream (not a scrotum application) and when I started I felt ok for the first few weeks with no sleep improvement. When my endogenous production started to shut down I felt worse and sleep was terrible. Night sweats were the worst. After I went from 20 mg to 60 mg over time with slow increases the sweating stopped and I felt so much better. Calmer, less anxiety, less depression and motivation. Testosterone makes effort feel good due to dopamine. It works on the fear center of your brain too (amygdala)

What I learned is that any doctor that says your free is ok and your total doesn’t matter is incorrect. Once I got my total up in the 500’s and free around 150 I feel better than I have in decades. I haven’t felt like this since my early twenties. I have secondary hypogonadism due to my pituitary not putting out enough LH. For me, TRT has been a godsend. Workouts feel great again, except during allergy season.

My point it is it takes time and sleep should get better. You just have to give it time and find your level and which type of testosterone works for you.

Thanks. I appreciate hearing that. I hear all these stories about trt being a “game changer” or making guys feel “so much better”. I wasn’t expecting side effects. Naive of me I guess.

It’s nice you found something that works for you, at least for now. However, do you think many guys here, or anywhere for that matter, would qualify for it? According to their insurance carrier?

I have no idea about the income levels or quality of insurance of our members. If any of these guys have treatment failure, a medical exception is all that’s needed to get Jatenzo covered by insurance.

A member on Excelmale was easily able to get Jatenzo covered and had he not known about it…

I don’t expect Jatenzo to abruptly stop working.

The gel/cream I use is has Atrevis as a base. There are people that have used Atrevis as a base on Excelmale with good results. I know people say they can’t do this or that after putting cream on but to feel better I would have almost done anything after months of feeling like hell and just feeling I was existing. Sleep has deepened too. Hang in there and just remember that it may take time to get dialed in but listen to people here on the types of protocols as my doctors didn’t know a thing and crashed me. Don’t give up!

Sorry, I assumed you would know that many guys taking testosterone do not qualify for a diagnosis of hypogonadism. It is about their levels, and the “normal” range, not their insurance. Guys that cannot get injections from the PCP will not get an expensive commercial product. Never mind.

Of course not, who would? But, it happens, I’m reminded of all the protocols for you over the years.

Weird. I slept all the time with low T. Now I feel like I need less of it

I find raised e2 makes my sleeping terrible.

Likely early on with your nstural test not shut down and a week or two in your T and E2are both higher than they’ll settle at.

You need to give it some time.

But to answer your question- yes. Early on I had this and it settled.

I’m the exact opposite, high T and high E2 helps me sleep better.

I agree, I’m sure there are more men on TRT who weren’t able to get it from their PCP and had to seek treatment privately.

I would also expect men on TRT who aren’t getting it through their sick care doctor are more likely to have their hormone levels optimized as well as having excessive levels.

I’m not going to cater to a specific group, this forum is a place to share information, experiences and offer advice.

Thanks Roadie. All I’ve heard is what a game changer TRT is. Doctor didn’t warn me that I might feel so lousy.
