Size Matters

I agree with this 100%. I have considered doing a raw meet, and then an equipped one a couple of weeks later, but I would never go equipped first, if I wanted to do well at the raw.

killer stuff, youve got some serious mettle, like the green shoes

Miss you around these parts lately.

Ups and downs, we go through them all the time. The difference between a champion and an also ran is attitude. Getting the shit out of your ears on the day is all that matters.

Yup… everyone needs a kick in the arse every now and then. I know you and Ouro have talked me off the ledge before… lol!

Don’t worry, I’m not on a ledge. My training is just a bit boring at the moment. I find any training cycle is repetitive and monotonous.

However, tonight I squatted in my new suit. I hit a single at 315 pretty easily but depth isn’t quite there. I need more work on the suit. It’s tight as crap in the hips. I’ve also been playing with my hand placement and moved them wider on the bar. That alone has made a big difference in helping me to stay up right and a bit more in control of the bar.

I went to see the local chiro/ART and apparently I have weak arches leading to a variety of problems. I have exercises so hopefully my issue will be sorted out shortly.

doing your homework I see

I practiced commands with Kacey this week. That is a whole new level and screwups I hadn’t envisioned.

It’s been a while but training has been going on. It’s less than 4 weeks to nationals. Tonights training looked like this…

Squat
bar-10
115-5
155-3
195-1
235-3 straps down
265-1 straps up
280-1 "
310-1 "
330-1 "

I thought I’d try some reverse band squats for fun…
335-2
355-2

Bench-light
45-10
95-2x13

T-bar rows
70-3x10

DB OHP
25-2x13

I’ve since taken over our provincial website and have spent quite a few hours over the past week recreating it. When the new look is published in the next few days, I’ll post a link.

The high school provincials are in less than 3 weeks and I’ve been doing that every week as well.

Nice squattin’… whaddya think of the reverse band squats?

I really liked them. 355 felt heavy to walk out but easy to squat. I think I may keep doing them up to a couple of weeks before the meet just to keep the feel of heavy weight.

They published the list of lifters for nationals and I was happy to see that the woman who aged into M1 who would completely blow me away (with a wilks over 500) is in the weight class lighter than me. Yay!

Do you think there would be any advantage to doing reserve band squats for a raw lifter?

for some reason i could never find your log in the last few weeks…but alas i have now!

when is your meet agian?

I do these regularly up until about a month pre-meet for precisely the reason you cite. It really helps my little body get used to handling heavier weight. The squatting part is easy. It’s the walkout that’s hard for me.

Canadian nationals run March 29th through April 2nd.

Best of luck Julie!!

The absolutely best part of training is when this super tall thin man (about our age or a bit younger) came up to BB and said “you look like you work out, what can I do to make this stand out more?” He indicates to his lower pecs. BB suggested a couple of things but I was biting my tongue. I really wanted to say “stuff your bra like I do.” I did tell him to eat more. He was about 6’5" and my weight.

Squatting is looking good Julie. At least you didn’t tell him to get implants.

Looks like you’re back in the groove. Numbers look strong.

Stuff your bra. That’s funny. My coach actually asked me to wear a padded bra for a meet once so I’d fill out the chest plate in my bench shirt better. It was a bit of a low moment for me. Well, not really.

Nice squatting…and you should have told him to stuff.

at 6.5 and super skinny it couldn’t hurt

If I stuff my shorts, will it make my squat #s go up?
