The groan at the end is my back in case anyone forgets how much back is used on bench.

How can anyone forget? My back always aches the day after benching. It has nothing to do with the weight. Just trying to maintain that arch. Interesting for me to see your foot placement. Seems like you do a great job of getting your legs under you. I’ve been playing with foot placment and setup in general. I have [sort of] long legs and have been putting them wider. Tomorrow I get to bench with PMPM. She can help me play with my setup. Should be an education for me.

Very interesting foot position! I’ve always gone wide, as it allows drive without ass off the bench, but I’m going to try that narrow stuff for fun.

I’ve normally been a bit wider and my butt has come up from time to time. I can see it did for a couple of the final reps with it narrow as well when I started to struggle.

I pulled it in narrower because wider has been bothering my hips. I can feel my knees cave and my feet (right foot in particular) pulls up on the side. With all the bench rule changes, I don’t know if that even matters any more.

Yeah, I’ve always disagreed with the “feet completely flat” rule - I’ve had refs tell me they wouldn’t give me a start command with a shoe 1/4" off the ground on the edges - but I think it’s silly they allow “some” movement/shifting now. I don’t want that sort of discretion.

Actually no. When I clicked on the video it said it was private. But I can view it now.

Thats really good benching julie. I’d give a lot for that arch.

I want that bench.

Nice benchin’ J

Thursday December 30

Squat
45-10
115-5
155-3
195-1
235-3 straps down
265-1 straps up/wraps
Up to this point is my planned warm up for the meet.

280-1 straps up/wraps - planned opener
310-4x1 straps up/wraps - planned second
I kept doing it trying for consistency and it wasn’t bad. They were pretty fast and clean.

Bench-light
45-10
95-2x12

Kroc rows
25-7 warm up
62-20
72-11

OHP db - neutral grip
25-3x10

4! singles at your planned second, nothing like a confidence builder - I’m guessing this is the last heavy squat day before the meet…

oh yeah - you said that a week ago (whoops!)

I was just thinking, my planned second at this point is 407, there’s no way I’d be doing four singles of that. Do you re-wrap between attempts, or wrap loose and leave them on?

I rewrap between lifts. Normally I wouldn’t be doing this many of my second attempt but I’m going a bit lighter since I had depth issues last time.

For instance, my opener of 280 is something I can triple, straps down, no wraps. My second is one I can hit straps down/wraps. I’ve done a couple back to back doubles with 315. My biggest issue at this point isn’t my physical strength, it’s my brain. I need the confidence more than anything else at this point.

What’s the record for your weight class? For being a stork, you really have a beastly squat.

The records have all been reset with the weight class changes but the current/historical M1 60kg squat is 163 kg (359lbs). My biggest gym squat is 345 which means nothing.

It’s funny you mention the stork thing because BB and I were talking about this tonight. There’s nothing I can do about my levers but I feel like I have to travel a mile to hit the hole. Not only that but I have long femurs so the distance is even further to get my hip crease below my knee. I watch him and other guys squat and it’s like a bob because the distance seems so short.

At least I look good in jeans and boots.

Yeah, when Snapper and I were benching on Wednesday, she kept going “Her arms are so short!!!” I told her I had levers like her coach, and that I’d probably look like him when I’m 70.

I totally get this. I felt exactly this way watching PMPM bench the other day. I can’t figure out how my levers are all long but I’m not that tall.

Yep. I can probably claim this one too.

PMPM and I are having the same thoughts at the same time. Scary.
