Now when is Worlds? Can’t wait to hear about your training for that.

Good job guys, where’s the vids?
I tried to watch on the internet at work, but the streaming wasn’t happening. I hope you got my congrats message.

It’s awesome that you guys does this together as a couple. Grats on his bench, and on getting your totals for worlds.

I don’t take it personally that my daughter won’t have lunch with me at school. It was more a joke than anything. She’s not into powerlifting so the coaching is separate from her it just happens I’m doing it at her school because their coach (gym teacher) has put together one of the largest high school teams in the country and is a top level lifter himself.

We’ll see how it goes. Last Thursday was their first training day for this year and we were just working on getting a number for them to work with for their training template leading up to regionals. A few of the girls were completely new to lifting and it was interesting to see how some of them seem to have a natural feel for it after a brief demonstration. One girl in particular squatted like a pro sitting right back into it with a lot of confidence.

Most of the others were typical for people squatting for the first time; narrow stance, toes forward, folding over, etc. I just spent a bit of time showing and explaining the importance of a tight back/set up, a bit of a wider stance than shoulder width and toes out about 45 degrees. It was some of the mechanics of it. Most of them do other sports so understood the mechanics of what we were saying.[/quote]

My oldest, when she was in middle school and started lifting, they had a guy in to help.

Well, he looked pretty rough, the school didn’t realize who he was and they were trying to get enough security to handle him when Heather ran up to him and gave him a hug and said it was so good to see him, though he looked so strange not wearing a suit at church and … and everyone calmed down.

She did have a class at college. She was doing single sets to failure when she worked out and the guy running the class did not recognize what she was doing, figured she was slacking.

Day of the final he gave them reference weights and told them to do repetitions until they could not continue. At around 90 reps she got his attention and asked “I’m at ninety, what is the maximum amount I get credit for?” Suddenly he paid a lot more attention to what she was doing. Gave her an A though she did not finish the final (seeing as she used up too much time on that first set of 90+ and it had a time limit).

I don’t think I got a message. Was it on FB?

Check the OPA website. There is a link to video archives of the live broadcast but it’s kind of hard to find what you’re looking for because there’s so much. I don’t have videos of my own but a bunch of people were taking ones at various times. We’re likely going to create an OPA youtube account to post videos of meets and link it to the site. I really wish I could find one of my deadlift fail. BB said it looked like a poltergeist pushed me hard to the back of the platform.

Outstanding Julie, big congrats to both of you.

Hey there. I haven’t seen you around in quite a while. I hope lifes been good for you.

When we were in Charlottetown we saw that Titan has come out with their own versions of the slingshot. It’s called the ram. It appears to be made of the same material as wraps. They were being sold for $55 each. We were going to get a couple but I got a crafty idea. I made my own out of an old pair of APT wraps that I don’t use any more. My version more closely resembles the slingshot.

I sewed two raps together horizontally. Then I sized it for BB sewing in in a loop that would best suit his chest width. Finally, I sewed the ends so there are arm holes. I ended up with a triple thick, double wide wrap that fits your arms and creates a chest plate. It’s a nice alternative to pulling a shirt on.

We just had a couple of drinks and took it for a spin. I was able to hit 135 for a triple with no warm up. I had bought a beanie touque at the meet and threw that on as well. That probably made the difference considering I was wearing pink polka dot pyjamas.

I’ll take a video soon. I’m quite pleased with how it turned out. It’s all about the power lifting crafts.

move over Martha Stewart.

I love your crafty ways Ouro.

Congratulations on the meet results.

I think it’s funny that you made your own slingshot. You and MJ could write a book together. The home hobby craft book for powerlifters. Featuring your slingshot, his homemade prowler and lifting shoes and a monolift made entirely from loo rolls and pipe cleaners!

Start logging again, I miss your sarcastic wit.

We decided to head over to a commercial gym today just to fart around. We broke out our new “Sling Back”. It works really well. I may make a second one that is sized a bit smaller for me. The current one is more for BB with thicker arms and chest.

With that, my bench looked like this
bar-10
65-5
95-3
135-5 with SB
145-5
155-2x2
135-9
This was lovely to work with. I didn’t get the pop I would with a shirt but it alse didn’t chew me up and require a team to put it on. I just slipped it over my arms. We get a bit of pop off the bottom and it will be good for working lock outs.

Front squat
bar-some
95-5
115-5
135-4x3
135-7

Dips
bw-7
bw+25-5
bw+35-4

DB rows
45-5
65-20
75-12

Lat pull downs

Then we walked to the grocery store and bought a cabbage to put in our corn beef brisket. Those babies are heavy.

Here is a video of the sling back. Please note my new beanie. It adds weight to my lifts. For real.

By the time we did the video, we’d already done all of the above and were kind of gassed but you can see how my new toy works.

That is awesome. I had heard that Titan had introduced its version.

About your grip. Is it the widest allowed? 81 cm, is it? My coach is trying to get me to go that wide with my bench because of my long arms.

My grip is the widest allowable with my index fingers on the rings. I use that when I’m in a shirt but middle finger on rings benching raw. I think it’s tough on you shoulders to go that wide raw but in a shirt it protects them.

Thanks. It’s been OK. Got out of lifting for a while but back at it now. I’ll be qualifying for this forum in 10 days so I’ve been poking around and saw your log.

Looks like you’re doing really well with the PL’ing.

I’ve been at 531 for 10 weeks or so and getting my strength back. Squat and Bench are the slowest to come around.

Hope all is well with you and your family.

BABE!

Heartfelt congratulations on your meet. And I’d had dearly loved to see all the powerlifters jogging in their gear.

Just catching up. Great job with the meet. Like the homemade slingshot.
