SIG P220: This Gun Rocks

This statement reeks of awesomeness.

I REALLY wanted to like Sigs but the ergos don’t work for me at all. My fingers are short, my hands are wide, they are like little meat squares that can barely manipulate the decocker on even the 9mm sigs.

I like the G17. Yes, I know it is “only” a 9mm, but any standard load easily makes PF, follow-up is super quick and the ergos work very well for me. Over 5,000 rounds through mine with no malfunctions. If I ever get another .45 it will probably be another Glock or a 1911 variant (thin), though my friend’s full size XD was very nice.

As far as rifles, I really need something more CQB ready…at least my shit already has bayonets attached.

SIGs are allright in my experience…

Back before they got taken over by morons that care more about making 20 different models for each gun and marketing instead of making the best possible guns.

I’m more of a Glock fan…I’ve got a G19 that’s my daily carry weapon that has over 10k rounds without a single malfunction…that I did not induce intentionally. Hell, I’ve even taken it though a 4 day handgun course and fired 4k rounds in those four days.

I prefer capacity over size…and am not a big fan of the .40 at all. I haven’t given any thought to picking up a .45 but if I did I’m thinking it would be a 1911 of some sort. Or I very well might pick up a G21SF or G30SF Problem is that that .45 is expensive and I haven’t seen it on the shelves here in quite a while.

I got a 10.5" AR that is GREAT for CQB…but it got too loud so I put a silencer on it.

Now it’s almost as long as a 16" AR but much quieter. I don’t want my ears to start bleeding if I have to shoot it indoors.

HK is okay in my book. Personally I don’t see anything to write home about with HK. You might want to think about parts availability. Magazines are expensive for HKs. Something along the lines of $45-50 dollars per mag. Also parts are not quite as readily available as something as popular as Glock.

that kinda goes against your first statement. 1911 as you know have single stack mags, so if you were looking for capacity why not check out the XD or something similar?

does your silencer have to be permanantly attached, seeing as how your barrel is only 10.5 inches?

as for CQB well…pic attached, lol

I would expect that you could get a tax stamp for the SBR, and then another tax stamp for the can. I have certainly been thinking about doing just that. I should check with my class III guy…and save up a ton of cash!

At home (in other words not carrying) I would prefer to have the max capacity available. Some might say that it only takes a second to change a mag; well trying change that mag under VERY stressful conditions and it seems like it is taking FOREVER.

HM doesn’t look like there is a shoulder stock on that, is that just a pistol like the carbon 15? Also, you’re shooting right handed but have your leg holster left leg, you do a cross draw or just shoot rifle righty and pistol lefty (have a friend who does that, he hates getting brass in his face shooting rifle).

No body mentioning anything about a Glock or Sig in .357? That’s a round that has me interested!

On my list…but I have no discretionary money :frowning:

I like the idea a lot (accurate, powerful, small package, reliable). Reloading for it looks like a bitch though since it is essentially like reloading for a rifle round and bullet setback is very critical. TX DPS likes it enough to make it their standard caliber.

At least ammo would still be relatively easier to find. That’s usually the only ammo sitting on the shelves around here. Personally, I’d rather go 10mm.

To diversify.

If I got a .45 it would mostly be a range toy or nightstand gun. The G19 would still be my daily carry and go to gun when the SHTF.

I would get the 1911 mainly for nostalgia’s sake. That gun has a lot of history behind it. I haven’t picked one up yet because 1)cost and availability of ammo and 2) the cost it would take to get a reliable 1911 built.

If I got a .45 for social purposes it would most likely be a G21 or G30, which I mentioned in my post.

yes correct. no stock, just the annoying gas tube. still a pretty fun weapon to shoot.

i shoot rifle right and pistol left.

the sling i use on my rifle keeps it vertical (muzzle down) in the middle of my torso when i am not touching it. if i am doing a transition from rifle to pistol, i simply take my left hand off the rifle and let the rifle fall in place while sandwhiching the grip/trigger well of my rifle between my chest/vest and the open palm of my right hand (fingers pointing down) while my left hand draws my pistol. i can either fire one handed or then use a two handed grip on my pistol

pretty easy and quick way to transition IMO. plus i don’t have to worry about my rifle getting in the way of drawing my pistol.

Nope. Paid the government for a tax stamp and got the rifle shortened down to a SBR.

I like the .357SIG…in theory.

Great ballistics, sounds great (read: LOUD), same capacity as the .40

However you want to make sure you practice a lot with it. Make sure you can shoot the .357SIG well with only one hand in case you need to.

One drawback with the 357SIG is that it’s as pricey as the .40, if not more so. That means if you’re trying to get the aforementioned practice in it could cut into your supplements budget.

Oh yeah the Secret Service uses SIG P229s chambered in .357SIG.

I can see exactly what you are saying in how you transistion.

Something to keep in mind, though my holster would not work for that at all (high ride conceal carry IWB). Next fun show I should get a left handed holster just to try it.

It does remind me that I need to work on my weak hand shooting A LOT!

bah at the sig.

have you guys seen the new CZ phantom? not very sexy looking, but 18+1 of 9mm? 19 rounds w/o having to reload is pretty apealing

pretty cheap too

yes, the ammo cost / difficulty of reloading has turned me off of the round. however during the great ammo shortage of early/mid '09, .357 was always on teh shelf ($25/50). not terrible, $50 to shoot a day of IDPA…though I can reload 9mm for $8 for 100 rounds for that same day.

I think a G33 (baby glock .357) would make for a great carry gun. powerful & compact. can someone give me $500, I will get out a range report to the forum for that low low price :-p
