I couldn’t agree more. If I want to screw up my health (or do anything with my own person, for that matter), how is it anyone else’s business? And yes, I suppose it will benefit people, but does that justify government involvement in my personal life?

Fuck no it doesn’t it! I’m so tired of supposed do-gooders using the power of government to tell me what I can and can’t do with my own life–I don’t need any more parents…

These people (90%) do NOT matter beyond the natural rights and dignity they are entitled do as humans. The men (10%) will enjoy their freedom to the max as well, creating, inventing, and spreading ideas that will enlarge our world and keep the species alive.

How have we become so permissive of our slavery? In America we don’t mind our chains so long as they don’t make them too tight. WE SHOULD BE FIGHTING TO BREAK THOSE CHAINS! Trans-fat, smoking and ephedra go so far beyond merely being health issues; they are freedom issues. Who is the government to tell me what some restaurant can or cannot make my food out of? This chains me and the restaraunt owner. But this we accept, for the chains are not too tight for the boys out there.

I believe that the problem with the boys out there is that they KNOW they are boys. They KNOW they will still eat at McDonalds. Knowing this, and knowing that since they are boys they have no strength, they get the government to infringe upon the freedom of men who are doing something. And they do it with a clear conscience, for they think they are helping society.

The battle for freedom is beginning to come to a head in America and soonafter the world; we are going to face very interesting times 10-20 years from now and the men need to get their heads in some books and get their philosophical grounding figured out.

Actually, I think you can - at least to the extent that Democrat = “progressive.”

If it weren’t for the fact the government is (and increasingly will be) picking up the tab for a lot of people’s medical care, this kind of stuff wouldn’t be tolerated. It’s justified in the minds of a lot of people based on the fact of who will pick up the tab - the government pays, so the government can take these actions to reduce its costs. Helmet laws, anyone?

Part of me abhors this but the other part feels that society deserves it at this point. The masses like to restrict the freedoms of groups to which they don’t belong regardless of whether it is necessary or right. Food laws like these will at least make the restriction of freedom sting a little for all the fat assed average Joes who lack the principles to stand up for the rights of others.

In a perfect world people would be protected through mandatory disclosure and personal responsibility rather than outright restrictions. Since this world is anything but perfect, all I have to say is- Suck on it America, you deserve it.

Absolutely. Helmet and seatbelt laws are nothing more than CYA type policies for insurance companies, and oh yea, rvenue rakes for governments.

This, is not a good trend IMHO. I mean, where does the “it’s in your best interest” argument stop? I for one do not want the government to be my nanny.

I agree with pat, we should have the right to destroy our health if we want to as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else. Removing all these things because they are bad for you is just the government treating us like children. Granted, many adults act like children, but to me this just plays into the big government taking care of your every need that the Dem’s sell. Government’s job is NOT to protect us from ourselves, look it up, that function is NOT in the constitution. Nor is income redistribution. We are slowly becoming mind numb, dumb, irresponsible subjects in a socialist society.

If you really think that Republicans are preserving liberty then you are going to have a serious wake up call soon. They are just the flip side to the coin of tyranny. The fact that we as Americans split ourselves upon such ridiculous party lines makes a populace more easy to conquer. Untied we stand, divided we fall, right?

Amen, yet he gets credit for being great though none of his plans worked in terms of moving the U.S. out of the Great Deppression. Yet, I guess look at the souce of the compliments. Between FDR and Harry Anslinger the stage was set for the government to assume control of our lives.
