I have not been tested for those specific antibodies - however the doctor was concerned w/ hypothyroid given my numbers and that my mom is hypothyroid. She wants to try levothyroxine.
If you have supplemented iodine and your TSH is still really high, that could be your best course of action. I’m not as up on the Thyroid stuff, paging @KSman.
yeah I have been using iodine for 3 months and no real change in temps, I feel a little more energetic tho. Still feel my metabolism is slow as im maintaining on like 2100 cals and still sensitive to cold. Anyone have experiences w/ the clomid? I am talking to the doctor about the dose today. Seems to be a very small risk. Don’t know if I need an E blocker as my E2 was in range as listed above.
TSH will be very elevated from the Iodine supplementation, avoid doing labs for atleast 4-6 weeks after IR. I have also seen that temperatures also are not conclusive of thyroid function unlike what many believe. My temperatures sometime fluctuates and my TSH, fT3, fT4 are all good. I have also seen that my family members follows a similar pattern. I sometimes go higher than 98.6 during the day, sometimes don’t reach 98.3. It depends on the amount of activity i have done throughout the day, sometimes i stay in bed most of the day and my temps are lower. Sometimes i wake up late and temperatures are low. Nobody in family has hypothyroidism as well. I think in some cases, the forum has tendencies to create paranoia about Thyroid when there’s no need to. Temperature in healthy individuals can fluctuate on a day to day basis does not mean everyone on here and in general has sluggish thyroid function.
This is not to say that some people on here do not have such issues but i think it makes sense to treat what you see is wrong but unless you see a TSH of over 3.0 consistently, there’s no point in being paranoid about it. I also doubt a mildly sluggish thyroid function is causative of such severe Low T problems so it makes sense to defer action until T is sorted.
I started iodine in January so its been long after 4-6 weeks. My temps in the AM have peaked at 96.7 or so. The doctor was more concerned w/ low ft3 and low ft4. TSH was a concern as well but it had been reasonable in the past (believe 1.8 before iodine).
What about PM temperature? My brother has low AM temp (97.1 max) but gets to 98.6 on average during the day. He does not have any low T , low Thyroid symptoms and is healthy. Also, contrary to forum knowledge i have seen most people with slightly elevated TSH (1.4-2.0) which this forum considers as weak thyroid function. I mean majority of the world cannot be hypothyroid.
I usually get to around 97.8 or so.
It could be a problem then, especially if your doctor is concerned about fT3 and fT4 levels. You should atleast hit 98.4 majority of the time around 3-5 pm depending on your routine of waking up.
SHBG also came back at 64.9 (17-65 ref range)
advice from @KSman? I think its very safe to assume at this point that I am not deficient in iodine. My morning temps range b/n 96.2-96.5 or 96.6. Bear in mind I do live in the cold. Afternoon can get up to 98.2 is the highest – Also advice regarding T protocol if you could!
bump for any advice or any thoughts from anyone experienced. I think im going to consult w/ Defy Medical.
Looks like thyroid meds will be a good idea. If T4 meds do not work, problem may be rT3, see the sticky.
T protocol as per stickies:
self inject 50mg T cyp twice a week
250iu hCG SC EOD to preserve testes
0.5mg anastrozole at time of injection and adjust via lab work to get near E2=22pg/ml
Suggested clomid dosing is way too high.
But note that sometimes low thyroid function causes some cases of secondary hypogonadism. We do see a lot of cases like yours here at your age and often thyroid is not a factor.
Yeah. I want to avoid TRT if possible & am going to a different doctor for clomid restart hopefully. I am also going to a urologist to examine the varicocele. By the way, the E2 test just says “estradiol” so im not sure if it was E2 sensitive.
0.0 - 39.8 PG/ML is the reference range and I was 23.2 PG/ML
If E2=23.2 is before TRT, that made you quite estrogen dominant.
If you do TRT, E2 can only go up from there.
See the HPTA restart link found here: About the T Replacement Category - #2 by KSman
I havent done TRT. I do feel estrogen dominant but I am carrying around some extra BF. Just no muscle @ 6’0 170 lbs about 18-20%bf being brutally honest.
Low thyroid function lowers metabolism and drives fat gain. Thyroid is very critical.
Oh I know! Don’t know whether I should wait for my consult with Defy before starting on Levothyroxine
I read the estradiol sticky but in nowehere does it mention a range. What makes you say my E2 is high given thats its in range & 23 seems like a relatively decent #. Is it because of relativeness to my overall T?
Relative to your T levels. Will drive fat gain and contribute to sexual effects.
T clinics are often not concerned with thyroid and will probably leave that to the local doctor. But most of the thyroid issues we see here are in-range and most docs see no reason to do anything.
GOt it. Yeah my endo wanted to try to the 25mg levothyroxine - but it was only after I suggested to her I had thyroid issues. I’ve been having to drive a lot of the interaction b/n us. So much context. There are hardly any experts in my area & I dont want to leave my health to chance.
