Hi everyone,
I’m currently trying to decide whether I should restart TRT or stay off it, and I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have had similar experiences.
Some background:
Before starting TRT I had my testosterone measured multiple times over a longer period, always in the morning. My typical value was around 10.5 nmol/L (303 ng/dL), but I also had two separate measurements at 8.6 nmol/L (248 ng/dL).
So not extremely low, but definitely toward the lower end.
I started a short TRT trial with testosterone enanthate, about 95 mg per week injected every other day (EOD).
I began on January 23 and stopped on February 8, so the total duration was about 17 days.
What surprised me was how strongly I seemed to react to it.
Within the first days I noticed:
-
much stronger focus
-
significantly less brain fog
-
more confidence
-
more creativity
-
overall a strong feeling of being mentally “on”
That part actually felt very good and quite noticeable.
However, there were also some negatives.
During the first week especially, I had several episodes of what felt like sudden anxiety or intense internal pressure, almost like a strong nervous system activation that appeared out of nowhere. These moments felt quite real and not like imagination.
After about 7–8 days, those anxiety spikes improved, but I still had the impression that my system was constantly somewhat activated. I had trouble sleeping.
It felt like being permanently “on”, which made it harder to relax.
Before TRT I was always someone who could relax quite easily in the evenings, enjoy downtime, watch a series and just switch off mentally. During TRT that relaxed “cozy” state almost disappeared.
Because of the anxiety in the first week and the constant activation, I started questioning whether starting TRT had been the right decision. Since the treatment had only been running for a short time, I decided to stop rather than continue and potentially need a longer recovery or PCT.
Now it has been about four weeks since my last injection.
The anxiety and inner pressure that I experienced early on are completely gone now. I actually feel quite calm again and relaxing is easy.
However, the brain fog and lower mental energy that I had before TRT are also fully back. I also feel more tired again.
So now I’m wondering about a few things.
One question is whether the early anxiety I experienced might simply have been an initial adjustment phase, and whether that kind of nervous system activation sometimes stabilizes after a longer period on TRT.
Another concern is the opposite possibility: if that inner tension disappears over time, does that also mean that some of the benefits (focus, clarity, creativity) might fade as well?
So my questions for people with more TRT experience:
-
Did anyone experience significant anxiety or nervous system activation during the first week or two, which later stabilized?
-
Does the “constantly on” feeling sometimes settle down after a few months?
-
Or is this simply how some people respond to TRT?
Would really appreciate hearing other people’s experiences.
