It is, hence the ‘rapid fat loss.’ I know I know…
Lyle even says himself it’s a ‘controlled crash diet.’ You take breaks every 2-6 weeks. I’ve lost more weight in three months than I would have doing it the moderate way for another 2 years… :irked:

Alrighty…it has been more than a minute.
Brief recap -
Training - good
Cardio - almost non-existent
Diet - poop
My weight is back up to about 174, which I am not trippin about, but whatever. I am eating carbs basically whenever it feels legitimate (ex - ate some of Aarons pancakes after a cardio workout, or when I want a sandwich a have one), so that is fun
But definitely ready to get back on something stricter.
Anyhoo, Aaron and I are going in to Todds to train tonight. It is my last workout to pull deads for singles. I would like to get to 330 or so, but I’m not pushing the pressure because i will psyche myself out. For me, the strength is there, but my mind is definitely the real muscle behind any lift. When I over-think it, the weight ain’t movin.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
I think you’re making a good decision to not worry about your weight before your first meet. You’ll have enough on your mind. Just stay out of the 132 class - that’s me and Dianab ![]()
It’s a nice feeling having experienced lifters around to critique and give you a sense of security. There is less guessing that way. Pretty soon you’ll get cocky about the weight. I’ve dumped weight many times training alone. I train a lot by myself in my garage. I have a video posted on the last page of my log where I’m doing a double at 240 in gear for the first time since August. The truth is, it was a triple but on the third I was pushing so hard to get below parallel (tight gear) that I pitched over backwards and almost tipped my entire rack over. My guy yelled at me when I mentioned it later. Have heart, pretty soon you too can be this stupid ![]()
btw, welcome to PW.
So, I pulled a 325 single dead tonight!
Workout went like this:
Warm-up
DEADLIFT
warm-up
135 X 5
185 X 3
225 X 2
275 X 1
300 X 1
315 X 1
325 X 1 - fail my form would not get the bar off the ground…boo
325 X 1 - GOT IT!
Felt great. It really came down to me preparing my form correctly, and within the 1/2 second of lifting the bar, I can decide whether that bar is getting off the floor, fast or slow. Honestly, I felt so good with that 325 it really came up fast and I know I can do more. I realistically may not get to 350 in 2 weeks, especially with this being the last time for me to pull singles in practice. I would be really really happy with 340 or really even 330. But more importantly, tonight shows me that I can get to 350 easy with a few months of practice. I didn’t dead for a week and a half and came back so much stronger just int hat short time. I am so hopeful for what months of time can produce.
Dead assist movement:
115 X 3
185 X 3
205 X 3
These were done with 35’s as the main plate so it was a lower pull, working the bottom of the lift.
A few sets of reverse hypers.
Honestly, I was beat, so I called it a night after that. Overall, pretty awesome workout.
Chillin for the night. Gonna try to post a vid of the lift later.

Ok so here is the 325 pull. Not too pretty, but fuck me, the bar got up there. Fuck.
here is another one…I think 300???
and here is a random squat set from the other day…nothing badass to show off (175? poo poo), but I am having fun learning to post videos…VIDEOS FOREVER!!!

Now THAT’S how its done! That weight went up so easy, I predict you’ll hit 350 at the meet.
Wow. Nice job!
nice!! that 325 was pie. u have 350 in the bag. believe it, nail it. =+)
Wow…whenever youre done posting warmup deadlifts let me know ;). That was a gorgeous lift! Awesome job!
I felt pretty tired this morning. Going in later to foam roll, a little plyos, all that good stuff.
I have spent some time reading through your journals and posts and I just want to say for the hundredth time…
YOU FUCKING ROCK!
Inspiring.
Ok, did a pretty light recovery-type workout last night. Didn’t push anything hard because if I am benching again tomorrow, I don’t want a sore back. So just took it easy and did movements so they woke up my muscles.
Dynamic Warm-Up
T-Bar Row: 3 X 10 X 25 plate - medium grip…does anyone know how much the actual equipment weighs on this contrapation? I wonder if it weighs the same as a Olympic bar (45 lbs).
One-Armed DB Rows: 3 X 10 (50, 55, 55)
Lat Raises: 3 X 15 X 12.5 DBs
Back Hypers: 3 sets
25 reps X BW
20 reps X 10 plate behind head
20 reps X 10 plate behind head
I read on someone elses log that doing endurance sets for this movement is a good platform for strength, so voila.
Tri Pushdown: 3 sets X 12 (110, 120, 130)
supersetted with…
Cable Bi Curls: 3 sets X 10 (50, 60, 60)
20 mins LISS on Stepmill
Today I am totally going to foam roll and such.
Aaron and I tried some Gluten-Free pancake mix that literally ended up being glue in my stomach…damn the sweet brown rice flour (think the stuff that forms the outer layer of Mochi). So I ate at 8pm and could nto bring myself to eat again for the next 4 hours. I even woke up still feeling…not full…padded myabe…yeah, padded in my stomach.
Is anyone here gluten intolerant? If so, how did you find out and what kind of reactions did you have? I have done a bit of research on it but know the symptoms vary. I do not think I am, but I certainly would not like if I was…damn those pancakes.
I don’t think gluten is good for anyone, whether they are full blown coeliac or not.
Have a read: The Definitive Guide to Grains | Mark's Daily Apple
I know the effect it has on me: rapid weight gain, joint pain, lethargy and general malaise. Now I don’t look for gluten-free alternatives to things like bread, pasta etc - I just don’t eat them at all.
My sister in law has Celiacs. She figured it out (after several doctors told her she was crazy, bulemic, all in her head, etc) by getting tested for some antibodies. This was several years ago before gluten was widely recognized as an allergy.
She had severe gastrointestinal issues, couldn’t keep any weight on her, no periods, stress fractures, etc.
Cal - awesome read, thanks. I continued to research into the issue and found a lot of useful info. There are some symptoms that do fit in line with some I experience, but it is also like saying a red bump on your arm could be a bite, a zit, a rash, a whatever…they are just so common they could be anything. Really whether I am gluten intolerant or not, all my reading has surmounted to me making the decision to try to eliminate any grains/gluten all together. I will keep oats around as that seems to be a hot topic of debate for those with gluten allergies, but any real grain will be gone. However, I also realize that gluten can be in almost anything so it should be a fun(read annoying) battle to really stay gluten free. Thanks for the input.
pushmepullme - I have looked into some testing outside of an office, as I do not have health insurance, but $300 bucks to poop in a cup and mail it somewhere does not fall on my list of brokeass priorities. I think it is good that it is becoming more widely known, as most places we eat have an entire section for gluten free. However, living in Seattle can also be the culprit…compostingrecyclingorganiceatingvegangranolalovinghippies we are. A little pretentious, but saving the Earth;)
BTW - glad your sister is doing better.
So, I am literally competing alone at this meet. There are two other women in my weight class and they are a teen and a masters competitors. So I already win. Ha. Anyway, I also found out it is not a state meet, which is fine, but the state meet is in late February, so I will probably skip it. I think it would be wise for me to drop weight for a few months first and then begin some official PL training cycle. I guess I just do not want to wait an entire year+ to do a state meet. But I’ll suck it up.
Going to bench at Todds tomorrow. Fingers crossed I can get over 135. I must ladies, I must.
Get on the platform, you’ll learn so much, and then tear it up next time!
I am gluten intolerant…it sucks… I discovered it by doing a lot of research on this pesky hypo thyroid thing, and the relation between food intolerances…
I asked my mom if I had any known sensitivities while I was growing up and she said 'well yes, as a matter of fact you did! And it was gluten…only the doctors never did formal testing, just told my mom to take it out of my diet and I cured…the weird thing is, is that back then I guess the docs thought you ‘grew out of it,’ and my mom said I could handle it in small doses as I got older.
But I don’t think you just grow out of something like that.
Gluten intolerances fall on a spectrum from full blown celiacs to it just upsetting your tummy a little…you would know it if you took it out and added it back in…
I just decided to take it completely out, cold turkey, and I’ve never felt better!!! I also attribute it to my thyroid levels going back to normal WITHOUT MEDS!!!
…and like Cal, I just don’t eat the stuff, gluten free or not! Buckwheat is pretty awesome for making cookies on occasion though! ![]()
oh, Excellent work btw!!!
