Several studies found that people who have sex once or twice per week (or more) have about half the risk of dying from anything. This brings up the question, do healthy people have more hanky-panky, or does the hanky and the panky make people healthier?
Usually, it can go both ways, but one study I read about had an interesting side note:
“The only health difference involved cholesterol. Some men were high, others low. But we would expect the men with the highest cholesterol to have a high death rate from heart attack. In fact, high-cholesterol men in the group with the greatest sexual frequency had among the lowest death rates from heart disease.”
They didn’t elaborate, but it reminded me of this T Nation article questioning the usual beliefs about cholesterol.

Only if we were silly, because time and again we continue to see the opposite of this.
The cholesterol boogieman has done such a disservice to us all.
Regarding the question about sex and health: it may also be that the people that are able to have sex more frequently are those that have lifestyles that suit being healthier. These people most likely aren’t living in the streets eating out of dumpsters and sharing needles with people. And there is a fair chance they have a stable relationship with a reliable partner as well. And they’re the type of person that ATTRACTS such a person, which is to say, they have a stable source of income, good general hygiene, not disgustingly obese, etc etc.

I think frequency and duration is a good thumbnail indicator of health. Like burpees but not as lonely.
Related, but not like that, I was discussing grip strength as a marker of longevity with my one older brother. The crux of it was that grip strength was an approximate indicator of vitality due to the factors that lend themselves to grip strength vs. the view that improving grip strength would result in greater longevity/vitality.
In the cart/horse relationship, Id put better health as the horse, more whoopie as the cart. Grip strength might be the cart too in some cases.
