I think my point of the bear analogy may have been missed… but yes, I mis-spoke.
General advice is to fight for your life against a black bear, because if the more timid black bear is willing to attack, it means it’s trying to kill you. The grizzly, being more aggressive, will be far more likely to attack/charge, but may often be bluffing. Supposedly you’re supposed to stand tall and hold your ground as the grizzly charges (riiiiight…), hoping that the charge is a bluff. If it attacks, you’re supposed to play dead, and hope it loses interest.
Back to the topic at-hand; I don’t know if it’s just me, but the mob-mentality violence just bothers the shit out of me.
I can watch a person get mauled 1-on-1 and be slightly bothered by it, but watching a group of people attack a lone individual absolutely infuriates me beyond belief.

Like others said, she was probably all rattled after getting hit in the head. Also, there are two kinds of people. Quick reactors and freezers. some people jump to action quickly, while other freeze and have the attitude of this can’t be happening.
It seems to me that women fall in that category disproportionately compared to guys. as guys most of us have taken beatings or been in fights, played football or so on. Girls just haven’t been down the same road.
Their favorite way of fighting is talking behind someone’s back. I’m not saying she deserved this if she said something about one of those girls, just saying she’s probably a freezer.
There needs to be more hard time handed it for this stuff.
You know I can understand the fighting. It’s the continuing after someone returns from being knocked unconsciousness is the shocker to me.

I just don’t understand the ‘method’ of violence of kids these days (I can’t believe I just used the term “kids these days”…)
I had some people talk shit behind my back in high school. It made me mad, and sometimes escalated into an individual confrontation.
But to set up a situation where someone is trapped inside a house, and have an entire group of people beat them for 30 continuous minutes? What the fuck? If what this girl supposedly said was so bad that it merited physical violence, fight her yourself. Kids are such pussies now.
This is why I teach my daughters to fight and also to be honourable.
If any one of my girls was on either side of this video I would kick their asses into the next life.
Had something similar here in Victoria some years back. Girl was invited out after saying somethings online. Only difference was that they killed her after gang beating her. Which was really out there considering we don’t get more than a couple of homicides a year.
The whole situation is messed up, first you want to beat the shit out of the stupid idiots. Then you want to try to understand how something like this can happen. I seriously doubting these girls have had a rough childhood.
I have taught my daughter to think for herself and warned her about the pressures of peer groups. As well as the consequences of that one wrong descision. Still you can only hope that you got through. Thankfully she likes to defend the underdog.

When I was in college, I played ball against a team that had a really good fullback. My senior year, he was a junior and he gave us fits trying to bring him down. The guy was around 6’3" and 265, a total brick shithouse.
Well, after I graduated I went back to watch my team play his team, and he wasn’t on the field. I thought nothing of it at the time, figuring he transferred or something.
At Thanksgiving, a week or two later, I asked my cousin, who attended the same school, what school the big guy transferred to. He told me that the guy was at a party off campus one night and got in an argument with some people there. He decided to walk away, so he left the party to go home. The guys from the party (there were five of them) got baseball bats, followed him home, and beat him into a coma right outside his apartment building. When he woke up he had the mental capacity of a five year old, basically totally fucked for life.
I’m not sure what happened to his attackers, because I was too shellshocked and fucking pissed (it still pisses me off thinking about it) after hearing that to remember anyting else from the conversation. Here’s a guy, in the prime of his life, cut down like a fucking animal over a stupid drunken argument. I can’t think of too many things more tragic.
So, I understand what you’re saying, it’s a fucked up world we live in. The only difference here is that we actually get to watch. Fucking shit ain’t right.

Exactly how does one fight a bear? Grizzly, black or otherwise? My only guess is to go for the eyes? Seems like that woudl be the only area in whcih a human could damage a bear. Any suggestions?

On TV, I saw a video of a guy getting stalked/attacked by a black bear. The video was shot by his own camera while he made a slow retreat. He basically just threw rocks and branches at it until it gave up.

What I don’t agree with is the parents blaming youtube specifically. You don’t blame movies, books or other media for the crimes people commit. All that leads to is mass censorship. Even if youtube or myspace didn’t exist, the whole culture surrounding “reality television” has caused an entire generation to think their lamest action needs to be video taped and shared with the entire world.
