Regarding @EmilyQ’s post, like i mentioned in my previous comment, I cant speak for greenboy’s past on the forum. I can say for the few times I’ve seen him in the past, he is ALWAYS caught up in drama here.
The past is absolutely important, and ultimately, he is responsible for the way he is perceived here.
I guess my point is, his past should devalue his repeated arguments, and his comments in passing. It should never devalue a measured and understandable response.
Honestly, this thread took a hard turn in a way I expected it to. It was originally meant to be a very broad spectrum of general human communication, but has isolated down to subject matters with weight behind them. Which I guess is the only thing really worth talking about right?
In the state of the thread currently, attention to detail in these subject matters are imperative.
I’ve certainly noticed that if I post something political, someone who disagrees with me will go over what I wrote with a fine tooth comb, find one little mistake, and write a three paragraph rant on why that makes me an idiot or a jerk. They use that one little mistake so they don’t have to deal with the rest of my points, dismissing stuff they don’t like but can’t directly deny.
If I’m going to reply, I try to either address all points of the comment directed at me, or I quote a phrase not directed at me and add my input.
I do see a lot of people that will pick one part of a 4 paragraph page, reply to that, and completely disregard the rest of the post. Not even so much as “I agree with the rest” or “I’m not informed enough to make a judgement on the rest” which I don’t necessarily agree with.
That’s correct. I even had my ethnicity called into question and was told I was “kissing up to a Nazi/anti-Semite” even though I’m Jewish, had a grandma, great grandma (who was alive for twelve years of my life), and other relatives who had to run from Hitler, simply because I was talking in an unemotional manner about historical events to a poster who’s not fond of Jews but apparently likes and respects me as an individual. @TheCB
There are low blows used to which a poster cannot defend oneself in what can be objective conversation: anti-Semite, racist, misogynist. This is unfair.
I was once called a misogynist because I said generally women have less sophisticated taste in music compared to men. Yeah, hatred of women because of musical taste. Makes sense.
That’s just todays PC and candy ass society. I do not condone racism, at all. It’s one of the few subjects I can actually get pretty uncollected about. However, if someone is being unfavorable towards me, I’m going to discourage them, regardless of ethnicity, sexual orientation, history, etc.
I try to clarify when I’m generalizing, example:
It’s not that I hate women, at all. I mean. I’m a straight dude. I love women. Its part of the equation. However I find that I simply dont agree with a lot of how they view the world. There are many exceptions. Most of the chicks on this forum for one, my fiance, several of my friends, but they’re still a minority through my personal walk of life.
I kind of expect this to be a given when talking to me, but some people miss it.
I dont even think they’re necessarily wrong, I just disagree with the view point.
Throw this on a forum, and expression is lost. Theres a good chance I could catch shit for that comment, but in person I truly believe it would be well understood.
Honestly, its forum for dudes and chicks that like to pick things up. Some people just take this shit too seriously. (Barring the political section, not much can be argued against passion in there)
I’m fine with passion. One can speak beautifully on any topic. I prefer that. What I intensely dislike, even hate, is an intolerance to opposing views.
Here’s a point where semantics matter. You’re absolutely right, I just phrased it incorrectly.
Intolerance has no place in a discussion.
Circling back around to the anti semetic slandering on someone’s name. Theres a time and place for that, ie… a racist? However, I agree, it’s a cheap way to keep the lead in a debate, and is in fact indefensible. The best you could do is provide examples of things you’ve done that arent disparaging to a group of people, but it wont hold any merit.
Nice. It’s insane how worked up people get online. I mean, we all grew up on reddit, 4chan, liveleak, etc right?
Obviously everyone’s buttons are different, and certain emotions you cant help, and certain things are just downright offensive. However loosing your cool in any argument, doubly so for on the internet, means that argument was already lost a long time ago.
*in regards to a strictly verbal/text based argument
Yeah, I wondered that, too. It’s been years since I’ve seen anyone be aggressive toward you, @BrickHead, and let’s face it, back then it was probably me.
I disagree that women have less sophisticated taste in music, despite having no sophistication myself in this regard. Some men have good taste, others made Plies rich. You’ll recall him as the artist who brought us “One Mo Time,” whose title comes from the chorus: “You don’t wanna fuck with me no mo then cool, it’s fine, but before you go baby can we fuck one mo time?”
But disagreeing with you over music and sophistication doesn’t mean I think you hate women. You don’t come across that way at all, and never have. I think the push-back you sometimes get comes from aligning yourself with people who seem genuinely not to like women.
I was going to point out what BrickHead has actually gone through in here despite being calm and collected as fuck, but he did it for me. But keep pretending you know what you’re talking about, it’s cute.
My abrasiveness came right from the first few posts where I had been immediately dismissed as an Incel. Like I’ve said before, I had a choice - crawl my way back up to the good graces of the mob, or tell everyone to fuck off (funny enough it may well have been dt79 that threw that first ‘incel’ comment out there. Now he’s trying to tell me what the problem is haha)
I’ve also said why my writing is all over the place… I kinda view forum posting as a free flowing,or what I guess they call freewriting style. That’s normally what I do since I’m usually doing many other things simultaneously while being on the board.
