That’s a cool piece.

I do love Vermont. That whole “fuck you” attitude is a wonderful thing.

I saw Sanders on Bill Maher the other day. I liked him. Good for them. I wish NJ was the same way.

I can think of no two states more unalike than Vermont and New Jersey, with the possible exception of Oregon and Massachusetts.

Vermont shares with Alaska the least restrictive gun laws in the entire nation. So long as you meet the usual federal requirements (no felony convictions, no history of mental illness, etc.,) for purchase of a handgun, one may carry it, open or concealed, without a permit.

Don’t try that in Jersey.

Or in North Carolina, for that matter. :stuck_out_tongue:

Just noticed that’s an M-14 photoshopped into your avatar. Good stuff.

I never noticed that. Fine rifle.

Austrian rifles > American rifles

If you ask me, every American rifle post- WWII has been based on German or Russian designs, most notably the STG-44.

I’m not sold on the bullpup configuration yet. Ejection seems problematic.

What would really be an advance is some sort of recoil management system that allowed .308 to shoot like .223. I heard the Russians had something like that awhile ago. That, and a piston upper for the AR-15. The best thing nowadays is not the rifle itself but the optics.

I’ll concede the point, but only if we’re talking about this rifle, and not the 5.56 bullpup you displayed.

The Steyr-Mannlicher Scout is a marvelous rifle, but I don’t need two rifles, and I just can’t bring myself to trade my M14 for it.

Buy an old Savage scout. Much less cost, same quality.

Hmmmm. Same quality? Ya think?

I don’t know about that. The Steyr has a hammer-forged barrel, integral bipod, ten-round capacity, storage for an extra mag in the buttstock, a superior trigger, a superior action, and with the Jeff Cooper package you get a Leupold scout scope and Ching Sling (both of which I already have on my M14, by the way).

The Savage is a good rifle, don’t get me wrong, but comparing it to the Steyr Scout is the equivalent to comparing a Volkswagen Beetle to a Porsche 911.

My Savage 110 is a fantastic rifle, not pretty but it is a tack driver.

I hear about this movement every now and then living in Vermont. And having grown up in CT (full of restrictive gun laws), it felt pretty odd to enter a gunstore and walk out with a firearm ten minutes later with no more than a receipt to show for it. And I can walk around town with it slung over my shoulder if I want.

There is also a big movement around here towards local consumption and sustainable living. I think there are a lot of people who support the idea of VT seceding just to show that they don’t need the rest of the world to survive and can handle their own shit. I like that attitude.

Unfortunately it is often mixed with a lot of anti-corporation/anti-“big oil” liberal B.S. that isn’t validated or just naive.

If it weren’t so damn cold for so much of the year, I could live here for live here indefinitely - it’s a carnivore’s dream. The milk here tastes so good it’s unbelievable and the availability of grass-fed beef, bufallo, elk, venison, ostrich, emu, etc. is just plain awesome.

Very true. My folks buy organic lamb from this farmer in Vermont and it’s fantastic.

Looks like the secessionists didn’t learn the first time.

Completely uninfringed right to keep and bear arms.

Self-reliance and sustainable living.

Grass-fed wild meat.

Sounds like heaven. I think I could live with anti-corporation and anti-big oil sentiment if I had plenty of the above.

Couldn’t be much colder than Minnesota.
