Agreed. It isn’t perfect, but it is the best we have.

You can’t accuse WalMart as purely evil no more than you can praise them as a retail savior.

But you are purely evil and hence, due to my deductive reasoning Wal Mart is evil.
ROFL
Wal Mart is a human carnival. Because of Wal Mart I know what popcorn and cigarettes smell like together. And around here their apples are pumped up with water.
Wal Mart sucks.

Thank you for your piercing insights into the topic at hand. I don’t know how this thread would have continued otherwise without your pithy comments.
I am Salaried Management at a WalmartSupercenter and I can see valid points in many peoples bad opinions.
With a Company so large and 1.5million employees the “shopping experience” isnt as controllable as the “Home Office” would like it to be. Honestly overall it is hard to beat the prices and Ill be the first to agree (because I have to deal with the bad experiences customers have personaly) Walmart has its short commings.
I think that there is a “Mom and Pop” market that can be capitalized on and money made in that area plus… as far as “Customer Service” is concerned on a personal level Walmart cannot compete against that. They shouldnt try but they will make an effort in the long run, but the larger they get the harder it will be company wide to compete with a business that focuses primarily on a small scale speacialty market that has an opportunity to use unparalelled customer service to their advantage.
WalMart will always claim to have customer service the highest priority but will never spend the Labor $ to make it happen. The bigger walmart gets… the leaner they are expected to run.
100 Million dollars a yr in volume for a Supercenter does involve a lot of work.Thats moving a lot of freight.
Plus 45 - 50 thousand customers in a week can wreak havoc on a sales floor.
Some customers have a bad experience and say ill never shop here again only to be in again in less than a week and again and again. But for whatever reason anyone honestly boycots Walmart and sticks to that, believe it or not I can totally respect that.
A little secret though… after I get off of work and I have to buy groceries … i do shop at Walmart but I dont shop at my own store.I leave and drive right past another one and shop there. As salaried management I cant just shop and be a “customer” in my own store. I am always interupted to do things for associates or to answer calls. So… when its time to go home I just go and stop at the one on the way home and take my time and just be a customer. Please disreguard the incorrect spelling, lack of punctuation and overabundance of run on scentences.
my twocents
I think another factor we overlook when discussing big companies vs. small mom and pop stores is that big companies produce JOBS, LOTS of it. Now the impact of this sudden inrush of jobs implies more people/family which then implies economic growth in the area may be construed a good or bad depending on how you look at it… I hardly shop at Wal Mart just because it’s not convenient for me, for some reason, I tend to think Target first…

I couldn’t find steak-ums there either. I thought that was kind of strange.
I see what they’re doing, Walmart sucks us all in with a big selection and low prices, then slowly changes what they sell so everyone conforms to their way of thinking, then eventually, they are going to take over the world!
They’re already starting to plant microchip recording devices in their products to see what else we’re willing to sacrifice service for price for.
I bought my didgital camera there and found a strange white tab with a barcode hidden inside the box. I’m convinced they’re trying to spy on me.
Please do us all a favor, and remove your tin-foil hat. The sticker in the box is a theft deterent device. When you check out, they swipe the box across a scanner which makes a different sounding beep from the regular scanner beep. This de-activates the sticker, so you don’t set off the alarm at the door. Also, Walmart is using RFID(Radio-Frequency IDentification)tags to locate palletized materials in the RDC’s and stores. Eventually, they plan to use RFID tags to track movement of expensive merchandice. RFID can also be used to help illustrate traffic patterns, so stores can be laid out better. I hope this clears things up. -The Starkdog

Hey, don`t blame Wal-Mart. It just represents the will of the consumers behind it. No store can get this big without massive support. WM just gives people what they want and ask for. WM does the job in that market niche.

You have a good point. If everyone prefered better customer service to their lower prices, Walmart would be out of business. No one’s forcing anyone to shop there.
I’m going to try and minimize shopping there for food, especially after I read about the larger grocery store chains artificially ripening their fruit/veggies, and some nutrients are getting replaced with water.
It also went on talking about these changes being more recent that most nutrient databases, so there’s realy less calcium in thier broccoli, among other nutrients that have been replaced for a brighter, larger fruit or vegitable. (I read this in a Life Extension magazine, and tend to trust their articles, they could be wrong though, just like any magazine could).
Wal mart’s only providing what we, as consumers, asked for. Get over it. Free market isn’t always pretty.
My main complaint is that I don’t like walking a mile to get to the store (huge parking lot, no parking available) and then wondering ten acres of ground to find a product, because they have no freaking maps of the store!!!
David
Actualy, I prefer no customer service at all. I shop for groceries at Aldi’s. My ideal store. Pallets full of food, minimum fluff, maximum eficiency, cut my food bill by a third.
But thats just me. I’m a strong believer in patronizing the stores that you like. Not necessarily a boycott.
