All I gotta say is that I TOLD YOU SO. I do believe I said this would happen in each of the other gay marriage threads. Discriminating against gays is unconstitutional, plain and simple. No matter WHAT your personal or religious opinion on it, when you give gov’t advantage to some people and not others, it’s discrimination. There’s a lot of smart people here, not quite sure how that inconvenient fact escapes you.
Question, do you believe there is white privilege in the United States?
Would gay marriage be okay with you so long as we aren’t spending money on sex changes etc?
I understand people don’t want to pay for that sort of stuff, neither do I.
But that really obfuscates the question of Gay rights. Aside from not wanting to pay for sex changes and all that, why is it any of our business whether gays get married or not?
If your religious, you need to check out and realize this isn’t sacramental marriage, it’s legal marriage. Why should your religious ideals be imposed on a country where there is intentionally a separation of church and state?
Seems like religious folks are trying to impose their religious beliefs on the state. Plain and simple.
Do any of you have openly gay friends, or people who came out? I served with a woman who later came out and has since had a sex change operation, with wife an child on the way… Maybe I’m too invested, but I think she/he has earned the right.
Ummm… What Testy said. In every Gay marriage thread I’ve written very clearly that if you give tax/legal advantages to heterosexual couples and not gay couples, then it’s discrimination. I am NOT a fan of Christians discriminating against homosexuals. After all, most Christians eat shrimp and their little book says not to eat shrimp like EIGHT times, but it only goes into homosexuality TWICE. One would think they’d be lobbying the seafood industry, but they like to pick and choose what they fight against and most of it is about controlling other people.
I’m not interested in having MY life, opportunities, laws and government influenced by a bunch of idiots who believe in a man in the sky who loves you unconditionally, but will send an infant to hell for eternity if you fail to put some water on his forehead… Doesn’t QUITE add up to me. So as far as I’m concerned, they need to stay out of dictating to the rest of us what we do with our god given freedom. And I promise not to tell THEM that they CAN’T hang out with a bunch of other idiots and sing songs every Sunday.

Your ignorance of the Bible is laughable. I love these stupid fucking logical fallacies drummed up by the god haters who think Levitical Law still applies.
I also love how you criticize the bigotry of one group with a production number starring bigotry of your own.

Sorry; Hopefully now, homosexuals will be able access to reproductive medical care on the taxpayer’s dime.
And, with Federal Healthcare AND Marriage Equality; now, you too can pay to support the reproductive habits of a gay couple regardless of your political affiliation or religious beliefs.
Don’t forget the lesbians who’ll sue you bankrupt because you won’t serve as the florist for their wedding.

If a gay person’s idea of going to heaven requires he or she to be married to the person they have sex with . Then now they can marry and go to heaven .
I can still defend my point where labor in America’s labor market has many parallels to slavery

As far as I know, gay people have always been able to marry in America. I assume you are an atheist(or at least not a follower of any religion I can think of), judging from your, “Then now they can marry and go to heaven,” comment.
I don’t want to derail this thread, but parallels can be drawn between almost anything. Employment is voluntary, slavery is not. I can choose not to go to work on Monday. I can choose to quit my job. A slave can not choose not to be a slave. I am not the property of my employer, a slave is the property of his owner.

You can quit your job and eventually you will be homeless and could die . A slave can refuse to work and the results will be quicker and more sure but he can refuse to work

OK, I like to be sarcastic when I talk about religion. I am not a “god hater”. I am an “organized religion hater”. I detest pretty much any group that uses their version of “god” or a two thousand year old book to justify infringing on the rights and personal freedoms of others. None of that has anything to do with “god”.
My personal opinion is that most people are ignorant and brainwashed by various forces in our current society (MEDIA, religion, politicians, the various “organizations to help us”, etc…) The hypocrisy and audacity displayed on all sides of the religious spectrum is astounding - especially given that NONE of them can PROVE a single thing by anything resembling the scientific method.
So when politicians use their religious views to get elected and influence policy with religiously inspired legislation such as DOMA, Stem cell research bans, teaching creationism in public schools, starting wars with middle east countries, continuing to prop up Israel when they treat us like adversaries instead of allies, etc… I DON’T LIKE IT. It affects me, the safety of my family and the country as a whole.
To be perfectly clear I, personally, don’t give a fuck about your little book or whether or not YOU believe Levitical Law applies, because SOME people believe it applies. And SOME people who believe that are in a position to affect our country’s policy in some way. I feel it would make me a shitty citizen if I didn’t do my little part to raise awareness and write what I can to expose this travesty and bring these folks who have an unconstitutional agenda to MERGE church and state in to the spotlight with ridicule, sarcasm, and satire. It’s not like I’m out there bombing abortion clinics like some fundamentalist Christians are doing. I’m making jokes and pointing out flaws and inconsistencies and making a point to ridicule their positions, which frankly ARE pretty ridiculous. Kinda like justifying making decisions because Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny said so. It’s all just bullshit made up to scare children (or in the case of religion, adults with child like minds unable to apply reason).
So to answer your question directly, It DOES make me feel like a bigger man, but not in the way you implied.
And for the record, I fully support an individual’s right to believe whatever they want. Until they cross the line and start applying that belief to the LAW of the land and consequently ramming their belief down MY throat. Keep it to the church on Sunday and sing your silly songs, but stay out of my government.

God - I wished they would let users have signatures on this site. The first sentence of this post would certainly be in my signature - with full credit to stupid motherfucker who wrote it.

You can quit your job and find another. A slave remains the property of his/her owner, no matter what.
By your reasoning, everyone’s mind is enslaved by his or her own body. “You can stop eating and drinking, and eventually you will die.” Hell, the relation between mind and body isn’t even voluntary. It’s actually closer to slavery than is voluntary employment.

And you can work for another person what wants to enslave you, Your best answer would have been self employment . But the opportunities are becoming slimmer and slimmer . They are arranging those opportunities so there is less and less chances of making big profits

That sounds exactly like something pittbull would do. Don’t try, you’ll just frustrate yourself
My mistake. I was confused by the way you seemed to be inferring that God can be tricked by humans.
Like I said, as far as I know, gays have always been able to marry in America. I don’t know of any laws that have ever said, “A person can’t say he is married,” or anything like that.

If you mean marry with none of the benefits or be recognized by the Gov . I guess they can pretend to marry and no one will imprison them

You certainly couldn’t tell it by the misinformation you were using as fact. Your position that religion has been infused into our laws to justify infringement on rights and personal freedoms of others doesn’t hold water with me - unless you are freely interchanging morality and religion - in which case that would be a misuse of words on your part. Or poor choice of words at the very least.
One needs look no further than the election results of last November to see that there is a significant portion of the population that is probably too stupid to be allowed to participate in one of the most basic rights of US citizenship.
I know you have already admitted to sarcasm, but given the opening salvo in your previous post - you seem to dip your feet in the brain washing pool at times.
Please show me any federal legislation that forces the teaching of creationism exclusively. This is a non sequitur. More of your sarcasm perhaps?
Please list 5 people who are in a position to impose Levitical law on the entire nation. I would be more fearful of those in power wishing to impose Shaira law over us.
Once again you are making the mistake of freely interchanging morals and religion - they are not the same thing. In point of fact - there have been far more laws passed limiting the free exercise of religion than there are cases of religion being merged with the state. I get that you are angry and the fact that people of faith have been elected irritates you to the point of using misinformation and ridicule.
As an aside - I would challenge you to name any of the founding fathers who did not reverence a higher being at least once in their writings.
I think it is exactly as I implied. You are not that much different than the ignorant brainwashed idiots you rant about. You play fast and loose with the facts, and lube them up with fallacies. You display a demonstrated bias against those who think and act differently than you do. And you are angry that there are some of those people in positions of authority.
I hear this same rant all the time. And it’s is baseless. There is a difference between ramming a belief down one’s throat - ie. BarryCare forcing private citizens to pay for insurance that is also forced to cover morally reprehensible medical procedures - and creating a victim status our of a voluntary lifestyle choice.
With all that said, though - I think you and I agree for the most part on the way things should be politically. I am pretty much 100% Libertarian in my beliefs.
I don’t think the government should have any say in the way I live my life. Period. Funny thing about those religious nuts you rant about: they are in lock step with the statists about 90% of the time. And on the rare occasions that they aren’t - they get shouted down.
Gay marriage, on my give-a-shit-ometer, ranks several notches under the failed war on crime, the failed war on poverty, the failed war on drugs, and the failed war on terror.
I’m just one of those idiot bible-reading, gun-toting, knuckle-dragging christians you think so highly of.
If you’re going to go off on you God-hating rants, just use factually accurate support next time. Calling entire groups of people names is not factually accurate. It just makes you look like a bigot.
