I love sardines and used to eat a couple of tins every day (for the good fats) but stopped due to concerns about mercury. I now use fish-oil caps, eating fish of any kind only rarely. I would like to start eating sardines again if I can do so safely. My question: How much can a person safely eat on a day-to-day basis?
I freakin love those little sardine bastards. I have eaten them ever since I was a kid. I enjoy the crunch of the bones. It makes me feel like I just grabbed them up out of the water. I also like the looks on others faces when the smell hits them.
I can’t say what the max is, but I wouldn’t worry about them. As has been previously mentioned, they’re low on the food chain and have short lifespans - they’re probably lower in mercury than your average fish oil supp.
Also, for anyone who wants to eat sardines but can’t bring themselves to, you can mash them or put them in a food processor and make a spread.

I’m a Maritimer, so I always had these in the kitchen. Tuna is good. But Kipper Snacks are bought in bulk. And consumed accordingly.
While on this subject, I remember the article here that decried the myth of how high mercury could be in tuna, and how much you would actually have to eat to have it affect you.
However, do you fellas have any other reliable sources about this, either one way or the other? Old habits die hard you know.
