Ryan's Trip to Thailand

Heres my room, taken from the door frame.

Third world squat:

Sounds like it’s gonna be a hell of a trip.

Keep it coming.

Muy Thai gym across the alley.

The favored means of transportation.

The view from my balcony.

Yeah, I know. Had I been a few years older, I’d be on a cycle already. I’m still only 19 and I’m not that big of a retard.[/quote]

Good man. Gotcha. LOL at the “Third-World Squat” photo.

Hey man, congrats on getting away from everything and following your dream. It’s good to see a fellow diver making a career out of it.

If you don’t mind saying, what’s the name of the company you’re doing the internship with? I’m looking at doing some diving volunteer work at the end of this year (10 weeks in the Seychelles, can’t be bad), but never really thought about an internship.

Good luck man, stay safe.

Normally I wouldn’t speak for someone else, but I’m pretty sure Ryan is busy as hell between the internship and getting adjusted to living in a foreign country, so I thought I’d help…

If you read a couple of his posts back, he mentioned it was Aquanauts. British-owned, in Pattaya. Here’s the website for more info:

CC, thanks, I must’ve missed that in my skim reading of it on work time

Push, do I sense a strong words entry coming up? (or is there where it came from?)

I made my first two dives here in Thailand, today. Both were to about 100 feet (or here, 30 meters.) Talk about the imperial system finally fucking me over. My depth gauge is in feet, and my air gauge is in PSI. Everyone else’s gauges are in meters and bar.

Other than that, the dives were OK. I realized that the instructors here are WAY more intensive than anywhere else I
ve been.

I dived with another divemaster and three customer divers. The actual diving here is actually rather shitty. The visibility is about 10 feet, and you??ll get cold if you’re in the water for more than an hour in a shorty wetsuit.

I was also told about a thing to stay away from in the water. Its basically a conch shell that has a barb to shoot you with, which is extremely lethal and thus far incurable. From what I understand, if you disturb it, intentionally or unintentionally, it’s a death sentence.

Yesterday, I went to a local mall to go to the bank and obviously take some money out and exchange it for baht. Card doesn??t work. Lame.

At said mall, I actually got two dozen pieces of fresh sushi for about 4 bucks, too. It??s awesome.

That’s pretty bush league. How common are these things?

Well, the part about the sub par diving makes me sad. I had always heard that the diving in Thialand was excellent…guess I can mark it off my places I want to go then…

Anything like this?

Conus geographus.

Nasty little bugger if you disturb him.

[edit] there’s also a more common and similar looking beast called Conus textile - look similar. Both very nasty indeed.

If it shoots you, will another spawn in you until you explode?

There are great places to dive in Thailand. Pattaya isn’t one of them, though.

Well, dont do that. From what I hear, the other places in Thailand are beautiful. Even today, the diving was much better. About 30 foot visibility, saw lots of nice coral and fish.

Yup, that it.
