Lance Armstrong never failed a drug test either, right?
So, regardless of how phenomenal the performances of either of these athletes are, there’s no proof of them cheating, so leave them alone.
I don’t care how much of a jerk Bonds is. He hit the home runs. It’s his record, and I think it’s absolute bullshit that people try to discredit his baseball accomplishments just because they don’t like him as a person.[/quote]
True, but that doesn’t change the fact that I despise him. I won’t try to change the record books, and I’m most certainly not going to vilify a steroid user as an excuse, but in my mind the Maguire/Sosa race is still the record for home runs in a season, because it was so much more of a sportsman like contest with good guys. It was a pleasure to watch unfold. Bonds owns the record, and is past Ruth, but that doesn’t mean I have to like him.
Steroids in baseball, if they weren’t banned at the time, the record stands. If there’s no proof, the record stands in my mind, even if I hate the guy. But if you cheat and are caught, you broke the rules and I think you should pay for breaking them. Even if I think the rules are stupid or should be changed in the first place.
My two cents.
